For those of you who have been to a practice with pads on. How has he looked? Good or bad? Will or will not make the team?

Everyone talks about the TE position and for some reason this dude falls out of the conversation, even when talking about fullbacks.

I know EL. Maybe because he didn't play in the league last year? He wasn't drafted by the Texans maybe...
He knows this offense inside and out. He is in great shape with no injuries (knock on wood). History with Kubiak and TE Coach P. I think he makes the team. |

If I had to go out on a limb...I'd say he isn't going to make the team. We have a glut at FB/TE/h-back and I can't see the old guy making it since we aren't a playoff team. I think we keep the youngsters...and I'm impressed with Halterman.

Vinny. Are you basing this on what you've seen at practice? Or just a good Ole Texan fan guess? I hope your wrong, no personal.
Also, welcome LB Saleem Rasheed!! BT |

I think Daniels, Joppru, Hape, & Halterman are all battling for a couple of roster spots. I just don't see us keeping the vet who doesn't figure into the future when everyone else looks so good and we won't be 'playoff ready' for another year.

I'm thinking Daniels and Hape are the frontrunners for those two positions. The Texans seem to really like Daniels's upside and Hape seems to have enough of a familiarity with things as to give him an advantage over Halterman. I have real doubts that Joppru is in good enough physical shape to compete with the other three. Poor fella.

So Vinny, if the Texans were playoff ready, they would keep the Old Man?

I understand your position Vinny...
I'm biased but he can blow up some LB's and DB's. Hold his own versus DE's as well. Look at the rushing numbers Dunn & Alstott put up in Tampa, plus Anderson & Portis in Denver with Hape on the field. Tampa and Denver brought him in to block primarily, most defenses knew where the play was going after a while but they still couldn't stop it. One yard TD catch is his forte. The old man is in better shape today than he was 2 years ago. 250lbs solid. Never had a huge upper body but has tree trunks for legs. Bowlegged blocking style has kept him around a while. Not saying he is a pro bowler, just a dam good blue collar player and you won't read about him getting into trouble in the newspaper. Had a one day a week radio show in Denver and was called the Unknown Bronco. BT "That's all I got to say about that." |

Well I have been to every practice and watched Hape in his drills. He is ok, but he is not as strong as Halterman and not as fast as Jopp or Daniels. He is kinda the odd man out right now which kinda sucks because he has some talent. Right now Jopp, Daniels, Hape, and Halterman are battling for two spots and Daniels pretty much has one locked down since he is a 4th round pick. If Jopp improves his blocking he will beat out Halterman pretty easily since he provides more possiblities. Hape is overall solid, but unless we plan on keeping 5 I dont think he has much of a chance, especially if anyone else goes down he could be on the chopping block.

Coach. Thanks for analysis. Has he been playing more FB or TE?

Bama he does both. Early he will do FB drills then he will move on to TE drills and special team work.

Thanks again! Kubiak and Coach P. said they like him as a backup FB and TE, which is all he has ever been. Should be an intersting race.

Has Joppru gotten any reps at FB? I'm pretty sure Putzier, Bruener, and Daniels make the team and I'd be suprised if they keep 4 TEs unless they can help out other places. Do you guys think they keep that many?

Earlier today on 610 they were discussing the FB/TE position and it was mentioned that Bruenner and Putz are the front runners for the TE position and that Hape has a good chance as well due to his capability of playing at FB. I guess we'll see what happens as TC progresses. Honestly, though, after all the hardships that Joppru has endured, I'd like to see him make the team as one of the TE.
