What's going to help: New coach Gary Kubiak brings considerable offensive expertise, especially in the passing game, that should allow the Texans to get much better production from quarterback David Carr. Mike Sherman, former head coach of the Green Bay Packers, also lends his considerable experience as the assistant head coach/offense. Mario Williams (North Carolina State) might very well have to be the next Bruce Smith to live up to the mammoth hype of being the top overall pick of the draft. He certainly has the talent to be a dominant defensive end as a rookie, but it's too early to tell whether his career will reach legendary status. Eric Moulds (Buffalo) is a veteran playmaker who should be a nice complement to No. 1 receiver Andre Johnson and help boost Carr's confidence. Although Sam Cowart (Minnesota) sat out offseason workouts with calf and Achilles injuries, he still should challenge for the starting job at middle linebacker. DeMeco Ryans (Alabama), who was impressive in offseason workouts, is versatile enough to make an immediate impact at middle or outside linebacker. Tight end Jeb Putzier (Denver) has been a big help to his teammates in learning Kubiak's offense, which he knows well from his days with the Broncos, and provides the Texans good depth at a position that should have a greater place in their offense.

What's going to hurt: Despite the additions of Williams, Cowart, Ryans and others, the Texans still have some pretty significant questions throughout their defense, which is adjusting to a switch from a 3-4 to a 4-3 scheme. Charles Spencer (University of Pittsburgh) and Eric Winston (University of Miami) are going to be key additions to the offensive line, but the unit still needs work

nice read

It sounds like Richard Smith better bring his lunch pale and camouflage hard hat every day and twice on Sundays just like the good ole days.

I can't wait to see the transformation in play.

Go Texans!

Go Texans!
The "House of Pain" reincarnate!

All I know is when it comes to defense, if your going to hit someone, don't go up there and play patty cakes with'em, you better go up there and knock there jock in the dirt!
