Default Is Demeco the man or what?....

Sup peeps, lemme ask a question here, only cause I didn't watch much college ball last year. How good is Ryans? We took him with our second pick after Mario. Does that mean he was drafted as a starter?....and if so, just how good is he? What are his strengths which made him draftable so high?

In other words, is he "the man" as a linebacker or what?

I am waiting for the same answer myself. I have no idea who Ryans is. All the scouting reports I read stated that he was an average athlete with average speed and would not be a game changer type player.

In my opinion for the first pick in the second round you better be.

I just hope he is not another Gafney.

Lucky pointed out elsewhere how careful you have to be with scouting reports. My theory is a lot of them are copied from one site to another. Ryans was consistantly described as an average athlete while AJ Hawk was lauded to the moon--interesting in light of the fact that all their testing was very similar. For example one site described Ryans as not having great speed and AJ as having more than enough speed--Ryans ran a 4.69, AJ a 4.65.

Ryans is a very smart guy with academic honors who was described by his coach as a coach on the field. He takes good angles, has good instincts and plays IMO with a joy for making the play. Where he will break into the line-up and when is certainly up for debate but he looks like a great pick who will eventually make an impact IMO.

There's something to be said, especially at the linebacker position, for football instincts. Apparantly this guys cup overrunneth with football instincts.

That's awesome. With D.Rob in our secondary and Mario up front, I hope Ryans becomes the leader in the middle. He's got the smarts to understand systems and make adjustments. We'll just have to wait and see if he's got the skills.

He cant be at too bad, didn't he get an award for his D in the SEC? If he can hold up with LSU, FSU, Miami, at least he has a good idea of what NFL can be like.

Prediction: around halfway point i see our Linebacking crew as: Greenwood, Cowart, Ryans.

I beleive his intelligence is what we really need in the middle. I really like the idea of a young smart guy like that taking over at MLB and leading our defense in the huddle.

FSU and Miami are ACC....

You mean if he can hold up with LSU, Auburn, and Georgia.

He is someone that I feel so good about that I am tempted to get a custom jersey with his name on it. The more I read about him, the more I like him.

Here's some linkys:

This link needs some patriotic music in the background.

This link kinda says meh a little bit to claim that DeMeco is unathletic stuff

My friends from Alabama adore DeMeco.

It's his name. It makes people think you are fast with a name like AJ Hawk. It's like racing and screaming birds of prey.

While DeMeco Ryans sounds like some beater Eastern block car with a slow fat Buddy Ryan at the wheel.

"The Man" was the SEC defensive player of the year! When you're considered the best defender on the best Defense in the nation, it can't reflect too badly on you.

I ordered my first Texans Jersey since before we even had players today. I'm getting a Battle Red Mario jersey, but I was sorely tempted to get one of DeMeco as well. Both of them have the makings of Pro-Bowl caliber players, and I expect DeMeco to be 1st on the depth chart come the season opener.

Wow. i never noticed how close he was to AJ on so many different physical aspects. 1" shorter vert., a half-step slower 40, and 1 rep weaker. So little seprated by 28 picks. now i understand why Kieper and other post-draft guys are complementing the Texans on this choice. I'm starting to warm up to him real quick-like.

Thanks a ton for all the responses and especially for the links. I have a much better understanding of him and the potential of the Texans defense now.
