Wow, you'd think after the past off season that maybe they wouldn't take this shot but the Bengals gave up a 3rd for Ahmad Brooks!

It looks like the Bengals are giving a lot of players a chance to get used to stripes on their uniforms before then end up at county.

Good pick for them and should fit right in. He is a good runstopper and a decent pass rusher. So why not take a chance. Should be interesting to see how he fits in.

Front page of NFL.com, Cinci used their 3rd rounder on him. I cant help but think it was a mistake not to take him w/ our 3rd. Tallent wise, we dont really have a chance of drafting anyone of his caliber in the 3rd next year, especially at the MLB possision. Thoughts...

I wish we would have spent a 3rd on him...but we're still fine with Greenwood, Cowart, Ryans, and Orr. It's still always nice to add some young talented players though.

This was an issue with him at Georgia, and he did end up going to a military academy at one point. Lot of good it did him.

Hilarious....they pick up one player with a drug problem after another play with a drug problem gets suspended. One step forward and two steps back as always for the Bengals.

Although the guy has his fair share of problems in the past, I do think he is steal for a 3rd round pick. I mean after all we did spend some 3rd round picks in Dave Ragone (who we gave up for free) and Vernand Morency who has been sitting on the sideline. Brooks IMO was definitely worth a 3rd based on his potential and could have given us some depth at the LB position.

This also establishs Bengals coach Marvin Lewis as one of the NFLs top windbags, given his recent pledges about taking character into consideration
when selecting players:

There's certainly a question of if it's Lewis or Brown (owner) or both are responsible for this last choice:

BROWN MADE THE CALL ON BROOKS

A league source tells us that, although Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has plenty of influence over the composition of his team's roster, the decision to select Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the third round of the Supplemental Draft came from owner Mike Brown.

Our guess? Lewis is putting the word out that Brown made the decision in order to deflect a mounting storm of criticism regarding the team's addition on Marvin's watch of guys like Chris Henry and A.J. Nicholson and Odell Thurman and Frostee Rucker and Fahu Tahi.

Even if Brown did in fact make the decision, we wonder what if anything Marvin had to say as the boss was pondering the possibility. Did the coach say, "You know, this guy's college coach is putting out the word that the kid is a turd, and there are reports he failed multiple drug tests"? Or did Marvin merely keep his mouth shut and let nature take its course?
