I think we were favorites against Atlanta last year. By like 3 pts or something. We won that game though. I remember the Cincinatti debacle too. I don't mind being the favorites, especially against the Chargers in a season opener at home. If this game were in the middle or late in the season, and the Texans were favorites then I might be a little more concerned about it due to the players likely overlooking the Chargers. But since it's a season opener I have no doubt that they will be prepared for everything they face out there on the field, and as for the "butt whoopin". That's highly unlikely given your coaches inability to name a starter till Monday. What kind of depth can you possibly have when you can't determine if a rookie QB or a 2nd Round pick veteran is better for your team? LT is your only player, and we all saw how wonderfully that worked out for you last season. Put him on a team with a new defensive scheme, and weaker O and D Lines and what does it all add up to? Not much.

I am more concerned that we blow them out and then lose the next. Slow steady growth is what I want to see.

The Bolts have a good up-and-coming secondary, a stud back, and a rookie QB with some talent. Fortunately for us, they are very weak on the D-line and O-line. Their LB's are nothing to write home about either. They do have some young talented TE's and WR's. I personally think they are underrated. This team won't have a winning record, though, until they improve their two lines.
The chargers D-line and LB's leads the league this preseason in sacks so far and most were while the first string was in.I'm sorry, what was that about the D-line And LB's being weak???

Ah the inevitable preseason reference. So if we go by preseason then the Patriots will stink it up, and the Bengals and Jags will be better than them. You know you're in bad shape when all you can do is reference the preseason. Good luck with the rest of the season because you guys are going to need it.

Ron Dayne led the NFL in rushing during the preseason. It's the preseason, and the stats don't mean much. If so then DD would average nearly 7 yds a carry if u base it on his performance against the 1st team defense of Denver. Yet we won't fling preseason stats at you. We prefer to live in the realm of reality during the regular season. When you have to resort to using preseason stats it's not a good sign for your team.

lets be real some things in the preseason matter some things dont. If LT's ypc is 1.3 yards in the pre season it doesnt matter... if your starting line gives up 4 sacks in the 3rd or 4th pre season game... it matters... if your starting D gets 4 or 5 sacks in the 3rd and 4th preseason game it matters. If your starting QB completes 68 percent or 15 percent of his passes it matters. If your 4th string defense gives up 2 td's in garbage time who cares. Alot of things in preseason matter some dont

Good point SD. IMO anytime 1st string goes against 1st string it matters.

Default Preseason

The only things that matter in preseason are who gets hurt, who gets cut, and how little the cheerleaders are wearing. It's time for the real thing.

The sky will be falling in the city of Houston. Talk shows and MB's will be full of fans calling for Palmers head just like every lost. Maybe even Capers if the Bolts were to beat them.

I hate to agree with Cowboy fans, but DFAN is right. There will be a 'Fire Palmer' thread created excatly 1 second after the game and 2 seconds later it would have 4 pages of replys...

Heck, we have already had a 'fire Palmer' thread and we have played exactly zero real football so far in 2004.

If san diego beats us tommorow, their record will be 1-0, and ours will be 0-1.

Any more common sense questions?

The first team vs. first team in the pre-season argument is invalid. Even though teams are using thier "first team" usually all of the starters are still not in. AJ missed 1 game DD missed 2 games, Walker missed 2, Payne missed 3, Babin missed 1, Dunta missed 1, Foreman played 1 game with the "second team." Pre-season "first teams" are not regular season first teams.

I think they should fire Palmer just because we're tired of it coming up on the message boards, already.

I echo what RTP said above, and I'll add this. There is no gameplanning going into the preseason games, and according to Casserly the Texans didn't even gameplan for the Broncos in their 3rd preseason game. The 3rd preseason game is generally the one game that teams plan for, and in this case the Texans didn't. Play calling on both sides of the ball is vanilla, and thus if you expect to have much improved pressure on the QB based on a preseason game then you're sadly mistaken. When teams get time to gameplan, and watch tape against a team they can work on blitz pick up, and pass protection for that particular team. Both teams get time to find a weakness on the opposing team, and exploit it. Given the Texans' record in Season Openers I'll have to side with us on this one. The pass rush in the 3-4 predominantly comes from the OLB, and I don't see anyone on your team that is a sack threat. You have a new defense system in place, and you expect it to pay immediate dividends against a potentially potent offense that is in its 3rd year under the same system. If we had a 1st year OC, and you had a 1st year DC then I could see a close game. But this isn't the case in this game, and I don't forsee the Texans having any trouble with the SD defense.

We only have to do one thing to beat them, and thats stop LT. We also gotta watch out for Gates too, we get those 2 guys out of the game, and it could be a shutout.
