Default The Offense

I am just starting to look at our offense and noticed that we just weren't making plays after the catch..We also didn't have a threat in the backfield..

Heres some of the number i've been pulling up and some arn't just bad there terrible.

Receiving offense ranking #32 20+ 20 40+ 2 that is only a third of what some of the top teams are coming away with..

Were not making enough plays behind coverage inside the 20 range and turning them into more?

Were not getting to the second level(making blocks down field) to spring big plays?

We may just not have the talent that have the ability to run in the open field?

Rush Offense Basicly the same thing,,,5 plays all year of 20+ yrdpg rank 2nd to last!

We are ranked #18 in first downs gained on the ground,,not great but not totally out of the park...

Then we go back to goal line offense and our running game falls apart and drops back to #24..

Or maybe we just don't have the talent in our backfield we need? That homerun threat?

All this has to be fixed it don't have to be top but there should be balance and consistance.....

What do you guys think are the reasons for this? and What players do you think should be more involved in the offense..I myself think we could add a few weapons next year like the OSU WR and a TB but this year maybe even lining Buchanon up in the backfield if we find time since Mathis is of no help this year...I'm really not sure we can spare Phillip for the offense or if he could do it but he does have speed to burn,..

That's because most of the time the play ended in our backfeild with a sack when we were passing or should I say attempting to pass.:brickwall

DD is not fast enough IMO for the break away back that you're looking for. I'm hoping Lundy steps it up and is able to contribute.

...you're kidding, right?? Why do you think our HC,Coaches were fired? Why do you think we brought in a HC with an offensive background? Why do you think we got rid of 2 of our starting WR? Why do you think we acquired new players at just about every offensive position? Why do you think we're going to a brand new offense? C'mon, your post acts like we have the same-o same-o--I had to read the post date twice. Really, don't you think we've already started??? IMO, this post would have made sense a year ago but not now!!!!!!!!

Of course the Texans coaching staff helped the cause by not going long to AJ. They were contented to dump the ball down to AJ and DD. 11 on 2 is pretty good odds for the defense. Yes, we had a line, but they weren't going to occupy the attention of many with the inept coaching they had and the inept alignment and choice of players playing on the line. No, Carr really hasn't had much to work with until now.

I keep saying our new receiver core is here for a reason and other teams had better beware. If they aren't we will eat them alive. I think Kubiak is going to throw more than people think. How many teams can put two pro bowl receivers on the line at the same time. Yes, Moulds might be a little long in tooth, but he will get open and he will get the ball if its anywhere near him. AJ can and will learn a lot from Moulds. Do not under estimate what Moulds will do for Carr's confidence.
I have been posting essentially the above for sometime. We only had two weapons and we played them in a way that was favorable to the defense. That won't happen this year.

I haven't seen what I want to see yet.The offense has added as much as you can maybe expect but this preseason I will be looking for shifts in rankings.I went over this before the draft in building a champions too.I just still think were missing a few parts or haven't found them, to take us from being solid to elite. You talk about DD speed but Emmitt was a 4.60 guy. There has been changes but I still haven't seen anything.

I think we need to find the utility and keep an eye out on a few WRs(maybe on our team)that can block and run in the open field..

I would be nothing for me to want the top TB in the next draft..The old staff never believed in taking a RB early, hey! They never won either

I know in Denver they manned the backfield by numbers but I hope Kub and Smith concider another star to tandem with DD as a Duo...I just can't figure Morancy and his injury bug!

I've been for this for quite some time now. What have ya'll heard about Lundy? I'm with you on Morency. I haven't been impressed by him either. We need somebody with some speed to tandem with DD.

don't sleep on morency yet he has good speed and explosiveness although he didn't play much last season with a new coach and offense i think he will team up with DD for a potent ground game this season

I'm going to be keeping an eye on Chris Taylor. It would be a pleasant surprise if he made a few waves during training camp.

yeah our offense was horrible last year...i think some local high school teams had more complex offenses that the texans last year...but that's ok...we got a new coaching staff...some new weapons...i while i won't predict us to be a top 10 offense i can easily see us being in the upper half of the nfl...we got 2 legit recievers...we can do the runningback by committy...we got a pass catching TE and now we have an offensive system in place that allows carr to do what he does best...throw on the move instead of stand in the pocket...i'll go a little bit further too...our o-line dept is by far the best it's ever been...it might be the best depth in our division...not starting talent but depth...i'll make this prediction...our total offense ranking will be 13th overall in the nfl by season's end baring any injuries

He better because I already have him on the unable to play in the big leagues. This guy came from the big 12 also.Motavation

Antwain Smith did good last year with the Saints and could be a vital part of branching the backfield but I don't see him carring this team as a 25 carry back and he is already into his golden years..The other question is will his motavation carry over more then the one year new start sendrem

We may have more then we think with these guys but this whole team needs to come on with it..

Many posters have cautioned that 1 off season is probally not going to correct everything that ails the Texans from last year. There is a lot more going on with the team than just new players. We have a new coaching staff, a new defense, offense, and probally special teams too. And, very important, we have a new coaching philosophy that is based upon 'winning is the only option"---gone is Caper's 'coaching not to lose.' IMO, you are being unrealistic to expect 'everything' to come together this year to place us among the elite--sure, we all want it to happen. IMO , because this team has not played a down yet, we don't know who will make the roster or even how they'll perform. What is it 'exactly' you expect to see today? What can the team do right now that will make you happy?...not next week or down the road, but right now!!!!!!!!!??????????

Default If your looking for a all-purpose guy

look at this:#5 all time at SU Damien Rhodes 3972 yds.#6 Art Monk at 3890 and #7 Marivin Harrision at 3415.Now Monk is retired and I think you know where Harrision is playing.

That's putting him in impressive company, but at the same time RBs usually get a decent more all-purpose yards than WRs.

Do you think we'd get anything better than what we've got over the waiver wire? I guess it's possible. I'm kinda curious to see what we have now.

Before you get too hard on the RB's consider that Emmitt Smith didn't have breakaway speed or ideal size. What he had was great vision and HEART. DD has yet to prove to me that he has the heart. It's beyond dispute that he's an above average runner when healthy, but Emmitt Smith didn't become the all-time leading rusher by playing only when healthy. Hell, the man gained over 150 yds. one game playing with a dislocated shoulder. DD has yet to show me that heart. Maybe winning will bring it out in him. I'm still glad we didn't draft Bush, though. He might be the flavor of the month, but I'll bet lots of $$ that he's no Campbell, Sanders, Payton, Dickinson, Jackson or Smith. USC wouldn'teven use him in "HAVE TO" situations(goal line, short yardage). I don't have a clie as to how the running game will work out, but I DO know that we're better off expecting great things from a DE than a RB.

We can wait on waiver but the best you will mostlikely get is not going be the answer...Even Bennett is not an every down back...Fred Taylor is not going to be a long term answer..Stephen Davis is stop gap and not the answer long term but he will better then a developemental player to challenge Antwain for a start...

I think the Antwain Smith signing was good for our situation being it gives the other backs a chance to show promise (KEY:if he can produce in this offense).I just have my doubts about DD being it seams like every year were waiting on him...Who know how much Stephen will give us or weither the rookie could carry the load...This seam like the position Dallas was in last year when we convinced them to load the TB and they added A-Train and drafted Barber and added UDFA Thompson..Yes,we ended up releasing A-Train 3 GAMES into the season but were we sorry,No!Whos to say the depth chart would have come out the same if he wasn't there.

They didn't listen the year before when they signed that Eddie George and ended up he couldn't do anything but 2.0 yards a carry and Hambrick was their starting feature back at 3.1.Hardly move the chain..I could see Smith getting off on the wrong foot and having to play a rookie because Davis runs into complcations..When teams know you need knthing fall from the tree..but when you have, you could run into a mid season upgrade...

No TB no season.....I wouldn't break the farm and put us in a position but I would add a locomotive to the backfield...only good could come of it!
