There is a clip on NFL.com right now with Rich interviewing Young. Good stuff.

Two golden moments:
He addresses the Norm Chow Leinart rumour and says, "...you know how things get flipped around." ( although he talks in such a low key voice I cannot always make out what he is saying )

And says he thinks the option is going to work in the NFL.

Of all the things.. I will watch a Titans game, if they run the option. Just to see it.
In fact, I think I will saddle up and head down into possum land to see it with my own naked eyeballs.

I would love to see VY run the option, personally. The odds of it working effectively as a routine play is another story entirely.

That should be the first play that VY runs in a titans uni...Just come out the gates and surprise people...

Yeah I could care less about Vince running it, I just want to see it run in regular season in the Pros ( not during a strike ).

No wait, I guess I do care if Young runs it. Because I want to see a guy that can run the the option, try to run the option. I don't even care if it works or it doesn't... I just want to see the result.

The rumour is that it is tried out in practice every now and then, but gets shut down for various reasons before it ever makes the playing field in regular season.
( talking about for different teams over the span of the past 20 or so years )

I am with the old school coaches and say it can work against teams not ready for it.

I will add that if Vince makes it work, the copy cat mechanism will kick in and we will be seeing it twice a year with Matt Jones.

Chow and Fisher are working on getting him into play and the option is part of it.

Vince is as hot it gets and the detractors have been around since the day he started. So I kinda feel like most of it is just "over exposure" venting. Myself I am playing more off of the fact that he is a rookie, so what does he know about what would work in the NFL or not.

That's why I went out and fetched that Homer Rice article to back up the thread.

Don't read too much into it. He doesn't cite his sources and is most likely spinning more yarn then making something that fits so to speak, but it still highlights the amount of chatter that surrounds the player in the game of football ( when talking about plays and strategy ).

Seems like the option works okay for 2 point conversions. The Steelers ran it that way with Kordell Stewart.

Yeah I think the Bears tried it with Stewart too. But that team was so bad it didn't matter. Their offense was still in horrid shape last year also ( so it wasn't like all Stewart )

I'll never forget a game against the Jets when Warren Moon ran it and pitched it LoWhite and Moon had to have stiches in his chin. OUCH. At least it worked.

I would like to see it run. Personally, I'm convinced it isn't run as anything more than the occasional diversionary play because it's not really a fit in the NFL. You can't go banking your 40M quarterback on a lot of deliberate run plays and frankly NFL defensive speed tends to compare much more favorably than it does of a mobile QB against college defenses. Though I am surprised they don't run it more with a burner like Mike Vick.

The option will be one of many, many plays in the Titans playbook. Fisher loves to throw in a 'trick' play or two every game, and the option would be one of these type of plays.

Plus, if you're a defense and have to even think that an option could be run at any time - regardless of it's history in the NFL - that split second delay could be used against you.

Nobody thought a backwards lateral on a kickoff return would really work in the NFL, either, but the Titans got to the Superbowl with that particular 'trick' play.

The option will work if the defense is biting at something else and you've got the personel to pull it off. I doubt it'll be a bread and butter play, but it doesn't have to be.

Then he followed up with you cannot tell yourself that you cannot do things with anything ( in so many words I am not going to transcribe it )

Then came the 'if the coach's put it in I am going to get my teammates to rally around and make it happen' ( in so many words )

I added 'no' to adjust the "parsing". We already knew that the option was on the drawing board for at least a month now. ( we being the general board community in this sense, on account that we had some thread active on it some weeks ago )

The NFL radio shows and Rich have been talking about it since then also. So it's not like anything new or ground breaking. If there is any point to bringing it up, it is to say Vince feels confident that he can make it work and here you go, you can see him say it.

Now, the Titans are planning on installing a "Vince Young Package," one that would include the option and force opposing defenses to have to prepare for more than just Tennesee's basic offensive attack.

Behind the scenes, Titans coaches already have begun sifting through some of the various option options, pondering which to include for Young.

It's not to expect him to say other things. He's in a interview to answer questions, not issuing a statement to the press or giving a state of the union address.

I'll give Norm Chow the benefit of a doubt when it comes time to set up option plays for Vince. I doubt you're going to see much of a traditional option where Vince has 3 options: Give to the FB, pitch to the TB, or keep it.

I do expect to see a lot of run/pass options where Vince will roll out to pass but will be free to bring it down and take off if it's there. That'd put him close enough to the sidelines to where he can duck out if need be.
