Would it be worth it to try to make a deal with Tim Couch. I am not sure how reasonable it would be but the Texans could use a decent back-up QB (I'm not too fond of Tony Banks),

I don't think Tim Couch is a decent backup QB, and apparently GB didn't think so either. I'd take Tony Banks over Couch anytime.

Couch is pretty worthless. He has some type of chronic arm weakness problem. I don't like Banks much either, but he is better than couch.

I caught a couple of the Packers games on NFL Network. Ragone and Banks are both better options than Couch.

I'm not a Couch hater. I'm not a fan either but I don't think he's absolutely "done". I do think that his career is one of those long term resurrection jobs that you don't see happen very often. Mostly I think that's because of his head. How screwed up do you think he is upstairs and how long do you think he'd have to sit at 3rd before you got that mess straightened out?
That's the problem. In the old days he'd be the kind of reclamaition project that Al Davis might pick up (IF he had a stronger arm so this is kind of hypothetical really) and let sit for a couple of years at the 3 and then the 2. Or he'd go up to Canada (That may very well happen) and get his head back together to earn himself another shot. He'll get a call from someone, somewhere. QB is so thin around the league that he'll be riding pine for somebody this year. He won't be getting any better doing it though in most of the places that will call.

I wonder if Palmer could help him? Sign him to the practice squad & let Palmer work with him for a year or two. Maybe, Casserly can turn him into an extra draft pick or two.

I don't either. I'm not real clear on the Practice Squad rules but I don't believe that you could place Couch on one. I could be wrong about that but I just don't know. I don't think that would help him anyway. I believe his biggest problem is in his head though and I don't think a spot on a Practice Squad (even if it were possible) is going to be the solution to that. Someone with an aging #1 and a solid #2 is going to have to pick him, put him on their 53 and let coach him back to effectiveness. That's assuming he's willing to start over again. Then if he can get his confidence back and if he's got it in him he'll have to beat that #2 out before his chance to start again comes when their starter retires. It's a long term project.
The best spot for him to do that was Green Bay but they've obviously decided that it isn't going ot happen so where does that leave him? Waiting for someone to call who loses a signal caller this year.

Please, no Tim Slouch here. I think we have done a good job so far of avoiding UNDER-achievers.(with the exception of J. Wells)

This guy has the smell of fall about him...............Leafs He seems to be a crybaby, constantly complaining of boo boos and apears to have an overinflated perception of himself. That kind of guy naturally wouldn't fit as a backup to Ironman Brett and wouldn't be able to hold Davids Jock. Let him go play with the money he has sucked up and leave the rest of the NFL to actually play football.

He was brought to Green Bay as a backup for Farvre. The fact that he was cut, says it all!

He got cut by 2 teams in 1 offseason. Danger!
Look, we're OK at backup, assuming Tony Banks stops screwing up and gets back to the way he played last year. I'd rather take my chances with a guy like Banks, who knows our system inside and out, than go for damaged goods like Couch at this late stage. |
