Default Coaches to the salary cap?

Anybody seen any good arguments for putting coaches in under the salary cap?
( for or against )

Everyone basically agrees that coaches have an impact on a team? They make calls directly to the helmets of the QBs nowadays, so they effect every down and micro tenth of a second that is played in the NFL. Why then are these guys not included in the salary cap for parity purposes/reasons?

They big part of the team but they do not play the game. The players play the game of football and the coaches do not. That's why the players get put under the salary cap. If the head coach was allowed to run onto the field and play QB he would be counted against the salary cap, but that doesn't hapepn.

Parity is a side effect of the Salary cap...... the Salary cap is to keep player contracts down.... supposedly.

Parity is a good thing..... you've got no clue who is going to win the SB next year....... no idea, who's going to be in it...... back in the day, you knew before the season started..... down to four teams anyway.

So if the Cap is in place to keep salary demands down, why doesn't the same apply to coaches?

How much does what plays are called and who is put on the field on any given play determine the outcome of each play? I am kinda leaning towards a lot. Granted it's all rather subjective, but I would say they equal if not surpass any one particular player ( except maybe the elite talents ), and that player would be subject to the cap.

Could the Vikings have been in the playoffs with the same team and a high dollar coach? Would the Patriots have ever done anything other then break even without Belichick?

Fans certainly heap a got damn hell's basket's worth of responsibility on the coaches. I must've seen a Herman Melville sized dialogue on this site alone about how much Dom Capers effected the Texans ( and I haven't even read a third of them ).

Because coaches are part of management and aren't represented by the players union. The cap is to keep some owners from breaking the bank on players. The players union has to agree on what percentage the cap will represent for the players, not the coaching staff. If you were to cap the coaching staff then you'd probably have to cap the rest of the staff like scouts, administation...

My 2 cents

Agreed. So why would this be a bad idea or good idea?
