So What About our CB situation??

Okay we all know that D-Rob has one of the positions locked down and from what i believe that I read or saw on a video or something of that nature, he i sgoing through a training process to improve his skills on jamming at the line and running with the receiver which is great news.

And I must admit that when we cquired Buchannon I was a tad-bit excited simple because of his speed and I'm a huge Hurricanes fan so I was amp'd up about him coming but it's not looking too good for him at all. So people are talking nickel back at the highest for him.

So that leaves... Faggins, McKenzie, Sanders, Estelle, Walker and Williams.

Now i must give much respect to DeMarcus Faggins, he's been with the team and can play the game well I also like the fact that he has good ball skills however he's not very aggressive and often gets bullied by bigger recievers.

Chris McKenzie, I dont know too much about this guy. But from what I see if that he's extremely undersized and that scares me because as the years go WRs are getting bigger and stronger and faster. being 5'8 180 and lining up against a 6'3 220 WR something about that just doesnt sit well with me, what i do know is that he's not much of a tackler, 42 tackles was his career high in college. His ball skills dont seem very respectable either 3 INTs in 4 years of college. But you never know though good luck to him..

Sanders.. this guy has the most potential that I see from all of the others. I love his size 6'1 210 and he's got good speed. Made a couple of starts for us last year. I think he along with Faggins should get a good look if no other CBs fall into our laps. I think if our coaches work with him and flood his head with technique and what nots he could turn out to be solid for us.

Estelle, Williams and Walker i really dont know anything at all about these guys. Only think I can really comment on is John Walker and it's not a very good comment. While Walker has good size he definetly doesnt have the speed that you would like to have at the CB position. with a 4.64 speed I dont see him catching up with the likes up Marvin Harrison who are both in our division. Also USC's pass defense was an absolute TRAIN WRECK. So I'm not sure what to say about these guys but once again good luck to you all.

So I'm wondering is there any good CBs that could possibly be let go June 1st, or maybe one that went undrafted or even in the supplemental draft that we could bring in?..

Well I have heard from ppl that Mark Estelle wont start, but I think he is trying to learn because he played for Cologne in NFL Europe and he was one of the best corners in NFLEL. I like his work ethic (kinda reminds me of Dunta Robinson) Personally I would make him my 4th or 3rd CB.

I honestly think that Chris McKenzie has a better shot at making the team than Estelle as McKenzie came in last year and even got some playing time after P-Buc got hurt. With the experience of playing in a NFL game I think McKenzie has the edge on Estelle. Estelle is practice squad material.

It is obvious D-Rob is the only lock at CB.

I personally want to see P-Buc getting a decent shot in the new system. He is a gambler and playmaker and with the right situation still has talent to be special. He can't tackle a whiff but nor could Deion Sanders and he is the best ever. Hopefully with a better front 7 he won't have to tackle as much. Add to this Kubiak knows him well from playing against him and apparently rates him fairly highly I think he is the #2 opening day.

Behind them I see Faggins, Sanders and Mckenzie getting time. McKenzie will never be more than a 3 or 4 CB because of his sizr but he is a great athlete and can play in spots.

It will be interesting to see how the new scheme fits all the various talents we have back there.

Surely, I will try to be rational without venting too much. Most of the experienced posters on the MB already know my stance on this matter.

Faggins is nothing more than practice squad fodder. He is slow...in coverage, in his hips, backpeddal, closing speed, and recovery speed. He leaves a bigger cushion that Buchanon, and is on par with Buchanon's tackling in the first half of the season. He lacks everything you look for in a NFL CB. He is at best an average nickle back...AT BEST. I'm starting to vent now, so if your truely interested in more of my reasons for not liking Faggins...pull up some of my old posts on the matter (there are plenty of them).

I would agree that he isn't a guy you want starting for you. He strikes me as a guy that gives 120% for the team but his 120% is only as good as P-Buc giving 75% of his potential.

i agree faggins gives it everything when he gets the chance however if bucahnon gave as much effort as faggins then he'll be that great player that CC sees in him

I wouldn't say that....

I would say he doesn't want to be on the field if it means having to tackle 230lb backs. He is a cover corner, let him cover don't expect him to be a hitman in run support and he will emerge as a great CB.
Hopefully our new scheme suits his strengths and minimises his weaknesses.

I have made several other posts regarding a 2ndary FA pickup. Nobdody seems to think its gonna happen. I think after the o-line it is one of our biggest weaknesses and needs to be addressed. This is p-bucs contract year, lets hope his love for money makes an impact.

we have a huge hole to fill, because buchanon is only good for returning punts, he doesn't tackle and gets fooled by easy juke moves. sanders, faggins, mckinzie, and estelle are career back-ups...walker and williams are practice squad material. we also have huge holes at safety that need plugged. brown is an average safety but i don't see him having enough experience or ball hawking skills to effectively play centerfield....earl is on the slow side, but i like his effort and his physicality...it is something we need. i couldn't beleive we passed on youboty from ohio state in the early third round. he needs some refinning but buckeye cornerbacks have huge success in the nfl. but beginning on our gaping line problem is a fine start. i see alot of problems ahead, but in kubiak i trust...and pray.

I think that people are over blowing our secondary issues. With people healthy again this year after our secondary was banged up at the end of last year and with the promise of an improved pass rush and simpler defensive scheme I think that people may be suprised how much better our secondary plays.

D-Rob should continue to emerge into a big time corner, Earl will be back to health, Brown will have another year of experience, P-Buc will be back to health and more comfortable in town... all this tells me that we will be better than many think back there.

willie parker is one of the smallest running backs in the league, and he made pbuc crap his pants.


the dude is a sissy, and has no place on a football field. this "playmaker" label he has is a load of BS, he hasnt made a play of any kind in two years.

Well I think P-Buc will right some wrong opinions of him this year.

I think it will be my crusade this year to get P-Buc some props on this site.

Consider me a P-Buc apologist.

Yes Willie Parker may be smallish but he is fast therefore making his momentum more significant and therefore making him a more daunting prospect than a larger back running more slowly.

Just let P-Buc have a crack at a small AND slow RB and then we would see just how brave he is. Or maybe a WR with there back turned.... then he would lay the lumber.

C'Mon he still had to catch it though didn't he..... being able to catch is a pretty big part of being a corner.
