I did'nt see it, but would assume that he basically defended the pick, and talk about his horse at the Kentucky Derby...

Actually, there was a lot more to it than that. It was a pretty interesting interview, in that McNair basically said the choice of Bush or Williams came down to Kubiak. First he talked about the Derby, said he couldn't decide between winning the derby and winning a superbowl. They then asked him about the Willaims vs. Bush decision, and McNair said that he Williams decision was based on long term viability of a defensive player versus longevity of a RB. Then said that they made the decision by asking the defensive coordinator to explain what the team would look like with and without Williams, and what the team would ook like with and without RB. They then presented this to Kubiak and he was given ability to choose which team he wanted more. McNair said it wouldn't be fair to give Kubiak players he didn't want, and so the decision was almost exclusively his.
He then continued to say that the city was getting used to the decision, and that the negative PR was already calming down. Skip and Woody didn't buy this, and talked about this for a whlie afterwards, but didn't really say anything new Interesting to hear that although Casserly said "Blame me blame me" the decision was uniquely Kubiaks

interesting..... i felt all along that kubes and his staff hand picked nearly all the FA's and draft picks. So the MW pick makes even more sense since he has been very high on DC and DD from the get go.wasn't the ground attack pretty much the only thing we had going for us anyways?even though opposing D's knew thats all they had to worry about.Imagine what dom could put up with better air attack/field position

Capers drafts. I dunno....but don't really think Kubiak was that high on DD if all he wanted to was move up a few clicks to get him in the latter part of third round ? DD is a very average running back who's strong suit is versatility. Carr is something else again, talent wise. Whether or not Kubiak can get DCs head space squared away - we will see. But I really like Kubiak - he puts his butt on the line. He's gone public, very public about Carr, and now passing the very popular and obvious choice of Bush for Mario - he's got his neck way out there. |

First...... duh..... the money being dished out already tells you we are in a whole new era..... Kubiak said he wanted Weaver..... they signed him. Kubiak saw the deal, and probalby belw a gasket. Speculation. to further speculate, he probably went upstairs, and tore Ferens, Casserly, and McNair a new one. I beleive Weaver was first, and looked like the old deals..... every deal after that, I'm sure has been ok'd first by Kubiak, before negotiations began.... including a top dollar figure. I also don't think he is high on Carr........ he says we can win with Carr..... but I believe he brought Sage in because he believes we can win with Sage. I know. I know..... he's just a back-up..... people have got to stop thinking like that. He's an option...... should something happen to Dave, or Dave simply can't cut it, Kubiak plans to continue winning. Nobody wants a backup QB just to fill a spot, when the starter is hurt. Some folks sign veterans to this position, because they think these vets can help them win those games, because of their experience on the field. Others like to take a guy just as talented as the #1 QB, who didn't get the public stage of a succesful program. David Carr, Sage Rosenfelts, Dave Ragone......... our QB of the future may very well be on this team.... but his initials may not be D.C. I'm not saying David won't get a fair shot, just saying. I've never heard(read) anything suggestin Kubiak is high on DD. which I don't understand..... I'd think he would be perfect for Denver. And though he targeted DD in the bottom half of the 3rd round, he targeted Terrell Davis in the 4th, Mike Anderson, & Olandis Gary in the 6th. Clinton Portis in the 2nd, & I don't think he is/will be half the tailback Terrell Davis was. So it's not an exact science anyhow.... they've had their share of misses, but I think Denver takes the shotgun approach to finding a runningback. The throw a bunch of them up against the wall, and see what sticks. Just like Denver, they'll be rotating through our line up.

I heard a UT fan call in today to SR 610 and say he was going to bet against McNair's horse. They really need to get over it.

Quentin Griffin, Lee Suggs, and Onterrio Smith (without the benefit of hindsight) were still on the board after the Texans took DD.
'03 wasn't the best RB class. McGahee and Larry Johnson.....that's about it... |

In context, what he means is that he doesn't want fans to be anti-Mario because a pick that the football guys made. That Mario didn't pick himself. He is saying that if you are gonna be mad, be mad at CC not Mario. |
