Who was cut by the Steelers today. He played for WVU 2 years ago and was on the Steelers practice squad last year. At WVU as a senior, he was a second team All-Conference choice who totaled 41 tackles, leading the team with 14.5 tackles for loss and registering 3 sacks. His junior totals were 66/14/4. The team captain ended his college career as third on WVU's all-time list for tackles for loss with 35.
Upchurch brings experience at both nose tackle and defensive end with the 3-4 defense, having played the formation at nose tackle his sophomore season and as a defensive end in a variation of the 3-4 his senior season. |

Don't know much about him. Why was he cut? Who would you replace on Texans? I think Walker, Payne and Smith are locked & Sears, Deloach were starters for a lot of 2003. Terrance Martin played strong. I think it would be hard to come in now and make this team.
I commend you for looking though.

Yeah i agree w/ ^ we have alot of depth at the position now since we had so many injuries last season ! I think we'll be ok at the position and we have a solid core of players already. And payne looked good tonight i think he made a full recovery from his injuries, so na i wouldnt pick up upchurch.

Do we really have depth? I think we have bodies more so than depth on the Dline. We cannot get a push from our front line at all. That is just scary and that just sucks.

Once the full crew is on the line it SHOULD change. If not, it will be a LONG season for the DBs.

I agree with El Tejano. Defensive line is are weakest area right now depth wise. We can't afford any injuries to our 3 starters because there is a huge drop off after that. I'm hoping we pick up someone on the waiver wire after the final cuts are made assuming a decent dl gets cut. This is the time when the best players get cut so lets hope for the best.
Another area I'm concerned about is our offensive lines ability to pass block. Their run blocking is doing good but the pass blocking needs some improvement. D Davis has been incredible! This guy is the real deal. And of course AJ will do outstanding this year also. The suprise of the preseason for me has been Armstrong. I think this guy is our slot receiver of the future. |

I forgot to mention the other depth problem I see, QB! If Carr gets hurt for an extended period of time we are going to be hurting. We need a quality backup desperately.

I see our quality of depth at QB to be a REAL danger point. Banks played pretty well last year, but looks pretty bad this year. Wasn't it his throwing hand that was broken? If so, that may be the problem. It isn't fully back yet. Rags has shown a nice touch at times particularly deep, but has made a BOATLOAD of errors. At this point, with what I have seen, I suggest that we all pray real hard that David's able to play all 19 games.

All 19 games, lmao!! Let's hope so
I'm concerned about our QB depth too....Banks has looked really bad and well, Ragone=bad overall. I was very impressed with Seth Payne's game last night however. The guy lasted almost the entire game and didn't complain about any pain. He didn't apply pressure as he normally does but to just see him out there and durable for most of the game after the serious injury is promising. The guy is a warrior....very much impressed with his determination!

It was very gratifying to see Seth Payne back out there for just about the whole game occupying two offensive linemen all the time. So that means one or the other DE had only one man on him, so why didn't we see more of a passrush from the interior, much less the LBs? Speaking of which, I didn't see a single blitz package last night. Talk about vanila defense!?

If yall HAVENT noticed Banks is playing with all the second and 3rd string guys, He dont have near as many targets as david or near the time to throw. So maybe its not just him could be some of the back up guys hes playing with ! And also its not his hand thats bothering him, did you see the bullets he was throwing last night ? he won 2 and a half games for us last season, "thats half " or wins so i wouldnt put tony banks out just yet !

I know he's playing with the 2&3rd team, but it's the way he has thrown and how lethergetic (sp) he has seemed. He played with the 2&3s last year, but looked sharp. Just doesn't seem to be in the swing of things this year. At least not yet.

That is a good point, but i think with or 3 main guys up front it should really help us get pressure on the quaterback,,,so far this pre-season they have yet to all play on the line together ,,,so i guess we'll see after opening day (Cant wait) !

Yeah but i can say the only times he really did look good last year is when he was thrown into the game cause of injuries,,,and prolly only looked good cause defenses didnt really watch film over him. |

He was cut because the Steelers strength on their D is the Defensive line and there wasn't room for him unfortunately. He didn't really impress me this year but did last year in preseason. He is more of a developmental player then anything so i doubt he would be anything more then a PS player at this point. |
