Knowing what you know now..... If you were the Cleveland Browns 7 years ago, would you pick Tim Couch, the safe, conventional pick, with the #1 overall?? or Dante Culpepper??

This is knowing what you know now. Tim Couch is darn near out of the league. Culpepper may very well be too.

One of them put up some Okay numbers...... the other guy put up proBowl numbers.... almost consistently. Even in a bad year, his numbers are comparable to many QBs, their best year.

just a question....... has nothing to do with Vince Young..... really, it doesn't. Just want to know how you feel, how you would do.

of course you would take Culpepper, Tim Couch did NOTHING Culpepper has proven he is a pro-bowl talent.

Knowing what we know now I'd take Edgerrin James or Champ Bailey. Daunte Culpepper has shown he has the capability of playing at a very high level when given good surrounding talent and put in a position to succeed, and he's shown he lacks the capability to be outstanding with anything less around him. Edge and Champ Bailey are probably the most versatile guys at the top of that draft in terms of their ability to succeed in a wide variety of situations.

I know this isn't about Carr, but Dante's worst year is comparable to David's best..... Even on a bad team, Dante performs...... he'll make some mistakes, and his mistakes are costly, but that's the price of being a QB/leader.....

To expound on that, Culpepper's worst year he still had a playoff-caliber roster around him, which is more than can be said for David Carr, and that's not even getting into the whole coaching situation. I would prefer a guy like David Carr to Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper is going to either make the spectacular plays, put up a lot of numbers, and help you win big, or he's going to force things, make a ton of mistakes and kill you. David Carr thusfar has been more of a steady guy that doesn't have as high of a ceiling of his potential performances (more an issue of the style of offense and his aggressiveness of forcing plays than his abilities) and won't put up some dominant games mixed in with some games that just kill your team. I prefer a guy that you know more of what you're going to get rather than a guy that will be great 50% of the time and bury your chances of succeeding the other 50% of the time. Just pointing out a difference in their style of play so far in their careers in addition to the situations they've been put in.

Why do I have the nagging suspicion that if Culpepper were on any other roster, you would have just royally ripped him?

Let me ask a few questions to see where your head is at...
Zach Thomas or Al Wilson?
Ronnie Brown or LT?
Chris Chambers or Chad Johnson (minus the antics if that concerns you)

Culpepper's completion percentage has remained pretty high throughout his career, but as for 3500 yards and 35 TDs a year, he two amazing seasons statistically (2000 and 2004), a pretty good year in 2003, decent years in 2001 and 2002 and was on the road to a horrible season last year before getting hurt (he was on pace for 3500 yards but only 13 TDs and 27 INTs.
