I vote other.
I want whatever player(s) that Kubiak and the front office think will be the best player for the Texans given their tape viewing, combine stuff, workouts, face to face interviews, scheme and salary cap situation. Though I know the info regurged into the marketplace of idears, I haven't looked at tape or talked to these guys, and even if I did, I do not have the football IQ to make a decision like this. My perfect scenario would involve a great, exciting Texans draft and the Titanhicks and Cowturds not getting a single player that I give a sheet about. |

I voted other. I want to see us get RB with the #1. Then I want to see us trade Carr to the Titans or Jets along with another player or draft compensation. With the third or fourth pick, we pick up VY.
We all know Carr is not the leader we need in the club house. I'll take a leader over talent anyday, and VY comes with more talent anyways. While it would be ideal to have a quarterback to mentor VY, Carr is not the guy I would want to do it, and it would create a bad atmosphere if we had both of them with the intention of trading Carr in a year. With the way its looking right now, most likely getting RB, we look like a potential playoff team on a yearly basis. I'll give us that much. But do you really see us ever winning a SB with Carr at the helm? I just can't see it happening. Now with VY, RB, Davis, Moulds, and Johnson, I guarantee a sold out stadium for the next 2 years, while we probably don't make the playoffs. But that's ok as we will have huge potential. Not only will we make the playoffs after that, but its a team that can win the SB several times. One other arrangement I could see would be also trading Davis to the team along with Carr. That way we could get a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick I would imagine. That way we would have the #1 pick, #3 pick, #33, #39. We'd be able to improve defense with the top second round picks and I have confidence Kubiak can make Morency a solid runner up the middle. I'm open to any comments about this as I'd like to hear if this even sounds plausible to anyone else. |

Yes, I do see him winning a Super Bowl. He is physically one of the best quarterbacks to come out in the last ten years. Some experts have stated that Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer and David Carr are the few elite to come out recently. And no, it's not plausible. People believe David Carr sucks, and then want to trade him for a first round pick, a high one at that. Those ideas dont work together. Also, financially it's unreasonable. Carr just signed an extremely large extension (whether you agree with it or not), Davis just signed a large extension as well, and two high round picks will demand large paychecks. So to sum up, Yes to one, and No to the other. Edit: forgot to mention, welcome to the boards.

Thanks, I wanted to start posting yesterday but that activation took forever.

And then on the extensions, if they are traded away, how does that affect the 2 high round picks. It would open up a lot of money. And if the extension made sense to our organization, why couldnt we find another team that it makes sense also? |

My mind was made up a long time ago , if I was in charge I would take VY. Short time pain for long term gain.I have no problem with R. Bush or M.Williams I admit they would have impact sooner.

And as for the cap hit, we signed the players, and we owe them guaranteed money over X amount of years. It is spread out to prevent the whole hit on one season. When a player is cut, the money that is normally spread out over the X years is lumped into one sum and hit against the cap. So even if we trade Carr and Davis, we still take a huge cap hit. Also, Also, the Seahawks couldn't get a 2nd rounder for S.Alexander, and the Colts couldn't get a 2nd rounder for E.James. I doubt we could get one for Davis. In addition, teams rarely give up their 1st round picks for an unproven player, usually only pro-bowlers. (Amazingly enough, they'd like to use the pick on their own unproven player). To sum up, it won't happen on all accounts. At best it's wishful thinking. (Of course I thinks it's the worst thing that the Texans could possibly do to this team.)

If I had any assurances that Mario would be available at #4 or below I'd try to trade down and hope he falls, but I don't expect him to be available there so just take him at #1.

trade down, the Texans need more quality picks, a 2nd & 3rd rd. pick plus two 1st rd picks next year outweighs anyone single player.
hope that the Texans land a franchise LT who fits Kubiacs system perfectly, D'Brick, and Carr gets his long overdue protection. |

I like the idea that the Offensive side o' the ball is in good hands atm weapon wise. The O'Line will improve slowly n' steadily as the yr goes on via a better coaching staff. SO therefore why not shore up the Defensive side o' the ball. Start with a guy like 'Super' Mario n' take the rest from there. I don't think that we need to trade down to do that. If we can do that n' be assured o' SM then sure do it, but I doubt we trade to a spot where he would be there so take him #1 (Let's not make the Julius Peppers disaster for the 2nd time around again...)
