Anyone who hasn't been sleeping for the last couple of days has caught wind of the mega-trade brewing between (maybe) Oakland, Jets, Titans, New Orleans.
Read all about it at the Jets site. At the end of the wrap-up on this potential blockbuster, the guy who started it all, Bongo59, is quoted thus: Quote:

Jets have 2 this year correct? so it could be them, 2 this year and 1 next year.

Can we stop referencing this Bongo guy as a reputable source that happens to be spraying all this "top secret" information all around about a blockbuster trade that his team is supposed to be involved in? If we are indeed offered three 1st round picks for the #1 (assuming we stay in the top 3-4 picks in the draft) then we have to take it, but I don't see any team offering that and I don't see us making any other trade unless we're guaranteed to get either Mario Williams or Reggie Bush out of it.

biggest trade in the whole world?
bigger than the US trading ~7 million dollars for Alaska? OK not a sports trade ..... bigger than the Red Sox trading the Babe to NY for $100,000 and a $350,000 loan to finance a Broadway play? 90 some odd years ago, OK ........ bigger than Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich, both pitchers for the New York Yankees, swapping families? Peterson traded his wife, Marilyn, his two kids and a poodle for Susan Kekich, the two Kekich children and a Bedlington terrier. no freaking way it's bigger than this .....

OK, If Bongo is so "credible", how come none of the insiders like Kiper or Mortensen have gotten whiff of any of it?

just a rumor. he may have heard "chatter" but there's no way a deal that big could go down. too many good players, too many uncertanties, etc.

Agreed. Interesting rumor, but I doubt it happens. However, it DOES seem to me like the Texans have really been pursuing a trade for this pick.

Just for those of you who don't read the Titans message boards, Bongo is a Titans fan who makes up whatever he wants, then starts quoting secret inside sources that only he has. Over the years I recall him pointing out that the Titans had no salary cap problems and had a secret agreement in the works with Eddie George, Derrick Mason and others to cut their salaries so that no one would end up getting released.
He makes up BS like this every year, but posts with such confidence that people take him seriously. |

Here, for those not following, he's talking about some megatrade that DOES NOT involve the Texans, and then makes passing reference to the Texans talking to some team will to give up 3 first rounders, saying that if the Texans deal happens, the other deal goes out the window. We just have to wait a week and see if anything happens. Here's the link to the jets board discussion http://www.jetsinsider.net/forums/sh...77#post1163777 Last edited by Nighthawk; 04-23-2006 at 11:51 PM. |

IMO the first round only get's exciting if Bush and Agent stay on the high road. No way do we use the #1 pick on MW but that doesn't say he's not our man at maybe the #3 or #4 spot with an agreement in principle already done. If we market the #1 pick come Thur or Fri chances are NO stays put and then must decide between DF or MW. The safe money says they roll that money on DF unless NO suprises all by selecting RB. If #1 goes to Tenn or NYJ then NO might get some serious action from SF who definately has some motivation to move up and take RB.
Now to address the Tenn moving up to get VY concept. The reason VY will not be a Titan is...Tenn wants to dump McNair and drafting VY would require Tenn to keep McNair to tutor the new QB. Taking ML will open Chow's entire Playbook, tomorrow. With Volek in the fold, it would be an open and healthy competition for the starting job. If it's VY, he's carrying the clipboard for 1 to 2 years as he learns behind McNair and Volek. Big Bud will not do that again. So, IMO you can add Tenn to the list of teams desiring the #1. NYJ's complete that picture. NYJ moving up to secure the rights to pick Bush is 100% smoke screen to keep the Titans at bay. NYJ will give up less to move into the #2 spot. NYJ's worst nightmare is making a move with NO and watching Tenn come around and secure a deal for the #1. If this scenario plays out, NYJ can either sit tight and draft RB, DF, MW or listen to an impossible to refuse deal from the Raiders who would move up to get VY. If Bush wants to be the #1 pick, he better have an agreement in principle done by Wed or Thur, if not we will start entertaining very real offers for the #1 pick. Then and only then could there be remote chance for a blockbuster trade. If that #1 pick goes on the market then you will see a media madhouse. |

Also why are you posting a link to a message board like its a credible source, that would be like me making up some ridiculous rumor on this board involving another team and then one of their fans posting a link like its a credible source. |

Any thoughts of a trade have been dashed by the Bush revelations. Its a pick the guy you want and forget about it. In this case I will bet Mario Williams is looking a lot better. He's the safest and easiest choice at this point in time.
