Default Will Babin transform to that next level as a DE?

I was thinking about how good Babin was comming out of the collegent level as a DE. If that guys can step it up and play like he did at the end of this past season by pinning those ears back and comming off the edge we might see a Bro-Bowl DE in the making. He has the Size 6'2 260 and the Speed to be a awsome DE. His last year at Wester Michigan he has 33 tackles for a Loss and 15 Sacks playing at 276. If he bulks up he could be awsome. in the last two years he has had a total of 8 sacks playing outside linebacker. I really like Babin, our coaches these past two years have not used him like they should have and with the ability to switch back to DE I think we could have a solid DE with Jason Babin.

I agree, but a lot of people here seem to think Peek will be our starting RDE next season...

I dont think Peek can stop the run as well as Babin.

Babin or Peek, both showed flashes and also misfires.

I could see Peek staying at outside linebacker and providing a challenge to Morlon Greenwood at the RLB. In that alignment, Peek's size/speed would be an asset in run support with a possibly undersized Babin playing RDE. Nice right side blitz package.

Hopefully the coaching change combined with the defensive scheme will contribute to their emergence and ultimate success. It would be nice for the Texans D to explode on the scene this year. With the right coaching..........

Definitely there are some possibilites for H-TOWN heating up!

The talented young secondary(?PBuc?)
Veteran linebacker combinations(?Cowart-Wong?)
STUD D-line (with the addition of Anthony Weaver) along with a hefty stable of DTs in Payne, Robaire, and TJ.

All that with the draft yet to come!

I think Babin will beat out Peek as the Texans' starting DE. I believe he's a better fit for it. Also, I think the Texans draft a DE with one of their 2 3rd round picks. JMO.

Babin is not "undersized" for the DE position.

He is at 259. Presumably he will add weight but I don't think anyone would confuse him for Mario Williams or Julius Peppers is all I am saying.

I agree that Babin is probably a better fit at that DE position than Peek and that we may not need a DE, but, just to be fair, we don't need a QB (presumably) or a RB either.

I didn't say we needed a QB, RB, or DE. I am just saying Babin would not be an undersized DE. Who said anything about a QB or a RB? This is a thread about Babin, no one mentioned a QB, RB, or Mario Williams.

I know. I was just completing the thought after I said that we don't necessarilly need a DE. Sorry, I'm not trying to turn the thread the wrong direction, at least not on purpose.

at 260 he is a little undersized but i can see him putting on 10 or 15 pounds this off season, since he knows he is going to be on the d line now. im kinda pumped to see what he does at right end since he is fast for his size. but i also feel that way about a lot of our defensive players. they are young and gainging experience, theres no way to tell right now who is going to break out and who is going to be a bust.

So you consider Terrell Suggs, Jason Taylor, John Abraham, Derrick Burgess, and KGB undersized also?

OK fella Babin will be HUGE! Whatever, I said he would be a good fit at RDE and be undersized in run support.....last I looked top stud Dwight Freeney, who is comparable in size to Babin, is not real strong against the run himself and considered undersized. That definitely does not make him a bad DE, just a need to recognize and compensate accordingly, because his size also enables him to be an excellent pass rusher.

John Abraham, KGB and Jason Taylor may all weigh the same as Babin but they are a lean 6'4"-6'5" compared to a beefed up 6'2". Babin can still be super successful but will still not be the biggest RDE, and in my opinion, undersized in providing run support.

Size has little to do with it at this point. The difference between 260 and 270 isn't all that much. Check the stats. How were the Texans with Babin in as OLB and without Babin in as OLB. That should give you a good indication of how he was against the run (for the record im not arguing one way or the other, because i don't know the stats. I seem to remember we were much more effective with Babin, but again, I could remember incorrectly)

i think babin's going to be a wholly different player at DE than we're used to from him at OLB. he slimmed down from his college weight and was drafted as a "tweener", i dont think he will have little trouble adding 5-10lbs (which i doubt he needs to, playing the weakside DE). what's going to make him so much better is simplifying the game. no more read & react, no more worrying about assignment, no more standing flatfooted. he looked very good IMO at the end of the season with his hand on the ground and attacking the ball, and i think that's going to let him play more aggressive & more to his talents when put back in the role this season.

He was a first round DE so hopefully when he switches back to DE he can be an impact player. I think that Babin and Peek wil show up in the 43. I think that they will be in alot together when we want to rush the passer.

If Babin just keeps his speed and keeps that hunger he showed at the end of last season when he was healthy the guy is going to turn so many heads. He is a strong, fast, and has a better knowledge of the technique as a DE. Plus we can do so many thing with him as in dropping back a DE to cover RB in the flat. He is going to be a stud. Weaver and Babin, the WB, oh it is on I can wait for this season.
