He's probably just hoping that other teams will think the same thing so the Browns can get him at their pick

To bad he also questioned VY ability to play in the NFL. Did you just stop reading after teh Reggie Bush line, or did the burnt orange colored glasses instanly delete the negative comments on VY?

Must be so nice to disregard facts so easily in an effort to push your agenda. If any faction should use this articel as proof that they are right, it's the trade down faction.

But then again this is the GM of the Browns were talking about, a club without any recent positive drafting.

He said pretty much what most everyone has said about using Reggie....about 15 carries a game. However, he had some interesting things to say about VY.

"I think the question on him, at least in my mind, is the fact he's operated in a shotgun offense with pretty vanilla reads and if those reads weren't there, he could take off and run with it," Savage said.

"I think you would have to very much adjust your system, and I think if he came on your team you'd almost have to have two different offenses."

I doubt many teams are willing to make that much of an adaptation to their offense. Someone will and it MIGHT work, but may just as easly blow up.

Yah..I really trust the Browns GM..lemme tell ya. A franchise as successful as theirs has been really must have the inside track on this type of stuff.

I mean look at Kellen Winslow.. what a great pick.. no one questions his durability.

Was one of his questions why can't the Browns get talent like him with out having to open the vault like they did for every FA they signned this year.

Phil Savage has been the GM of the Browns for only one season. He was the top scout of the Ravens and the former director of player personnel in Baltimore until accepting the vacant Browns GM position. Savage has a very good track record of identifying talent (Ray Lewis, Jonathan Ogden, Jamal Lewis, Peter Boulware, Jamie Sharper, Duane Starks, Chris McAlister, Ed Reed, Will Demps, Terrell Suggs, Todd Heap, Priest Holmes, Adalius Thomas, Edwin Muitalo, Brandon Stokley, Bart Scott, Anthony Weaver, Chester Taylor) so I would not be too quick to ignore his opinion. The guy knows what he's talking about when it comes to scouting players.

Good info Steel Blue... its still a load of horse manure though . At least, the way that people here are perceiving it is a load of crap. Here is what he said:

Quote:
"I think when you get in a situation at his size, 200 pounds or so, when you're carrying it 20 or 25 times a game for 16 games, I think that's almost an impossibility for somebody to do that the way the game is played right now."
and right before that he said:

Quote:
"Whichever team takes Reggie at the top of the draft, if they utilize him in the right way, he can still be a Heisman Trophy winner at the pro level, even if he's only touching the ball 10 or 15 times a game.

In other words, he isnt going to be a workhorse back. And to that I say "well DUH".

We have "theorized" that it is POSSIBLE he could be a workhorse back, based on other backs that were his size and have been workhorse backs for their team. (Tiki barber is 200 lbs and averages 20+ carries). But for the most part, it can be agreed (even by Savage) that if you use him as one part of an RB tandem (Bush & Davis), he can be a superstar.

We are also talking 10 - 15 RUSHING attempts.. he could have 5 or 6 receptions per game as well.

The Browns' GM should worry about their own picks!

A gimmicky offense... yeah - lot's of championships were won with the run-and-shoot. Lot's of points but no hardware...

New England should call Cleveland before they draft since Cleveland has been so successful.

Just wondering... If some think VY is the prototypical qb of the future (i.e., of the Michael Vick mold), why can't Reggie Bush be a new type of rb that does something other than run every down (like Earl)? I think he's proven himself as being a capable running back (middle or outside), receiver and returner. He doesn't have to have the ball on every running play.

They have had one of the best off-seasons this summer, and they have learned valuable lessons from taking the most over hyped players in the draft like Bush. They took Couch, like Bush, the most saught after prospect in the draft, who like Bush will be a flop. They took Winslow Jr. the most highly saught after TE in most recent years and look what happend to him. Speaking in that respect, I would say they know quite a bit. Oh and he does not talk bad about VY, he just says that no one has ever played the game like Vince so it scares the teams in the NFL. He makes a argument that Vince has just as much potential as Bush at being a future hall of famer. Take your Mud Shark, anti-Vince, post and shove them up your pie-hole.

That makes Savage even more...odd.

Why bash a player, saying that if you take him you'll have to rebuild your offense if you want to use him, then bring him in for a visit?

And about Savages ability to find talent...who's the Ravens QB and how well is he playing? Finding a QB tends to be a different animal then the rest of the team.

what he said about young was spot on. QB's from college gimmick offenses just translate well to the NFL at all. and if you consider that the offense was actually simplified for him after his sophomore season because he wasn't performing that well....yeah.

No mention of Williams becoming a Texan in light of this evaluation? You VY/RB lovers kill me.
