Exclamation D. Ragone

Does anyone know what his contract situation is off hand? Is there a possiblity we actually get to see what we have in Ragone in the preseason or regular season? What are some of y'alls feelings/criticizims of Ragone thus far??

Ragone has been given a low tender by the team. Barring someone signing him, the Texans refusing to match and receiving a 3rd rounder he will be playing on the tender next year as a one year deal before becoming an UFA.

Last year Denver played their 2nd QB twice as much as Plummer during the pre-season (they did not have a 3rd QB play). With them working on a new system here and improving Carr in particular I wouldn't expect that to be true. Probably won't see a whole lot of Ragone unless he beats out Sage in TC.

I just got off the plane with Dave coming back from Kentucky and he had the Texans playbook in his hands and he said that he will be a Texan next year and also said that Coach Kubiak said that he will be given every chance to win the #2 postion.

Reggie McNeal can't throw well enough to play QB in the NFL.

Ragone, in my opinion, is the best QB currently on the Texans' roster. It's not a knock on YUGO, but praise to ROGANE. He wasn't played much in the preseason because we didn't want a Matt Shaub situation, I guess. He is calm and collected, but doesn't have the raw physicall ability. But neither did Steve Largent. Or Bernie Kosar.

I truly hope you're being sarcastic with that first statement. He's played what, 2 games for us and was awful. Sure, let's just trade Carr and hand the playbook over to Ragone. That makes sense. The NFL Europe isn't the NFL.

He played 2 games in 2003 - 2003: Played in two games and started both of them at quarterback…completed 20 of 40 passes for 135 yards with one INT

I'm serious, but it is not much of a compliment. All QB's stink their rookie years. Anyone care to remember Alex Smith? Anyway, according to many scouts, it takes 32 games to consider a QB to have reached potential. Thanks to Roethlisberger, however, that number is way too high.

You can say that all QB's stink their rookie years but there's a reason Ragone hasn't cracked the lineup since then and is still 3rd on the depth chart after the signing of Rosenfels.

considering after 4 years of play Carr managed to get 182 yds, going 19 for 36, 1 INT, 2 fumbles (he recovered himself), 0 TD's, and only (gasp) 1 sack, in the KC game last season, that we lost 45-17, it isn't too far fetched to say a rookie who had Ragones stats COULD be considered by some to be the best QB on the team.

Heck he gets my vote, till I see Rosenfels play in person at least.

Of course in games like the one I mentioned, we never saw Ragone play. Even when he should have been getting some gamefilm time at the end of that embarressment.

QB controversy?? Seems to be a legit reason to NOT play Ragone.

It's the same coaching that wanted and played P-Burnt, drafted Hollings, and kept playing victor riley. Rosenfels stunk it up, but showed great improvement and outplayed Unibrow.

Also the same coaching staff that drafted A.J., Dunta, and Davis.

Davis was drafted to be a return specialist. Texans just lucky and found out he could actually run the ball also.

They made great picks, but some were just dumb luck. Would you believe that Casserly wouldn't have taken Charles Rodgers, Drew Henson, Mike Williams, Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow, or whoever had they fallen to us? Or in Henson's case, dedicated to football?

BTW, in hindsight, they look like great picks, but you don't take KR as early as the fourth. DD and Mathis had other purposes, but the main reason for drafting them is to have a KR.

You can call dumb luck on a lot of picks. Some pan out and some don't. Tom Brady in the 6th? round. Rod Smith goes undrafted. Did you mean would? have taken those players?

As for Charles Rogers he looked to be the best WR in the draft and for good reason. Same thing with Winslow. No one can expect a guy to get into a motorcycle accident to ruin the start of the career.

Some guys are just injury prone (Joppru) and can never make it for that reason. Or they just don't have the desire to be the best player in the league even though the talent level is there. (Ricky Williams)

Yes. There were several reports prior to the 2003 draft favoing AJ and a vigorous debate on a prior incarnation of this MB about Rogers vs. AJ. Top that off with AJ's humble style and his face to face meeting with the Texans promising he would not be a hold out and yes IMO the Texans would have drafted him if both Rogers and AJ were available.

So the NFLE is not the NFL, but you have no problem recruiting new players from college (which is not, I might add, the NFL either)?

In order to play in the NFLE (American player) you'll have to be signed by an NFL team first.. I would therefore deduce that any American player on an NFLE-team not only COULD play in the NFL but is already IN the NFL.

In the case of Ragone, he was even drafted to the NFL...

I'm talking about starting for AN NFL team and making a difference. Not being on the bench and starting in the NFLE
