Question about AJ's Speed

Yeah, strange how 40 times can be so deceptive isn't it? Chad Johnson is another player who had a slow 40, even though it's apparant he's much faster the football field. I think Galloway was supposed to be blazing, but ended up a pretty big dissappointment. But I don't think that means RB is faster than he really is. He HAS been chased down from behind before. Sub 4.4 is accurate I think. 40 times are just too inaccurate IMO. There should be some sort of electronic standardized system.

Andre Johnson didn't run at the combine. Neither did Charles Rogers.

Johnson put his explosiveness on display again when he became the only receiver to hit the 11-foot mark in the broad jump. He did not run, nor did Michigan State’s Charles Rogers, but both showed they were capable of sub-4.3 40-times at their pro day workouts — a reason why both are expected to be top-five picks, although Rogers’ score of 5 on the Wonderlic test was not a reason for optimism.

He did run at his Pro Day, and he was very impressive. Here's the numbers.

Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com reports :Johnson was timed between 4.42-4.48 in his first 40-yard dash. On the second, he was clocked between 4.37-4.40. He also had a 41” vertical jump, 10-foot-9 long jump and was in the 4.10 second range in the short shuttle. He measured in at 6-foot-1 7/8 and 224 pounds, which is 1/8 shorter and six pounds lighter than he was at the NFL Combine. On receiving drills, one college scouting director termed his showing as “a little average.” (AllProScouting.com had Johnson running between 4.31-4.35 forty at his pro day) (Gil Brandt of NFL.com reported, Andre Johnson ran as low as 4.28 and as high as 4.4.at his Pro Day)

I'm not sure where you're getting that he ran a 4.56 at the combine.

AJ did not run a 4.56 anytime. He was an track champion at Miami. He has legimate sub 4.4 speed.

I know it's rediculous to compare myself to NFL players, but I just want to say that I was (for a typical kid growing up) blazing fast in things like the 40 yd. dash, BUT I got caught from behind several times on the field on long runs. The reason, as I see it, is because I could excelerate like nobody's business, but when I got up to full speed it would at some point feel like I couldn't keep it up, sort of like I wasn't leaning forward anymore (if that makes any sense). I would notice that I was eventually standing up too straight (or close to it) and feel like I needed to lean forward again, but trying to do so would slow me down. It's like a leverage thing. I got up to a certain point and then needed to sort of start over. I don't know if this makes any sense to anyone else.

Tom Kowalski, of mlive.com, reports just three short weeks into the Detroit Lions offseason conditioning program, sources said WRs Charles Rogers and Mike Williams have not impressed the new coaching staff. Rogers has been attending the workouts but the coaches have been underwhelmed by his attitude and focus. Rogers alleged reputation for being a partier remains. Williams didn't show up for any of the workouts last week. His agent said he left because of a "family matter.'' Williams is reportedly out of shape and overweight. Both wide receivers will need to improve their focus, or they could find themselves battling for a roster spot.

This can't be the Charles Rogers all the Carr fans think is supposed to make Harrington look like a probowler.......... can not be...........

he's still extremely fast on the field. watch the bucs last year, he blew past everyone, even in his 30s with bad knees.

Indeed Andre Johnson is fast. Plus he's a monster. Now that he finally has some teammates that can draw off the double teams I expect a huge year out of him.

I can't stop thinking about it. Andre, Moulds and Mathis streaking down the field. Bush in motion. Davis always a pass-catching threat. Double team? Puh-leeze. Someone's going to be "covered" by a linebacker. They most definitely will not be blitzing, at least not after the first 75-yard dump-off to Bush.

This could be the beginning of a bee-yu-tee-ful relationship and sleepless nights for defensive coordinators.

One of the fatest guys I every saw was Tommy Smith of Lemore (San Jose and Olympic sprinter). His strides were long and smooth. You though he was in slow mow until you looked at the clock. In the 440 Hayes couldn't even come close.
