Default Post FA signing thought on 2nd round pick

I know free agency isn't over but after the free agent pick ups how do you guys perceive our 2nd round pick? I think it gives us a few more options. We now have a mlb, lineman and de. I think the only thing we won't do with the 2nd rounder is qb, rb or te. I wouldn't mind us looking for a pass rusher for the d-line like the guy from bc. I don't know if the draft is that high on wr's and from what i heard there is a big drop off at cb after the first few picks. A lineman would probobly be the intelligent pick but i don't think it is the popular pick. What do you guys think?

WR, CB, or DE - whichever player is the best player available considering these three positions.

OL will be in the middle and lower rounds considering we now appear to be drafting for development and not to immediately step into the OL to start.

FS is our biggest need. Look for Ko Simpson, Donte Whittner, or Jason Allen.

I dont think a 2nd round WR would be able to come in a really help right away. WR's take a few years to develop. DE/CB's could probably step in right away and contribute.

I mean FS is a big need, but what did C.C Brown do wrong, if I were the texans I would prolly move C.C Brown back to SS, because face it, glenn earl is not much of a big hitter, and I wouldnt mind having that kind of player on this team.

What are you talking about?? Glen Earl is a very big hitter. That is one of his faults, that he will go for the big hit too often instead of the sure tackle. Earl was also the second rated S behind Sean Tayor, period. He comes from a good school and is over his injury now.

Its not that CC did anything too wrong, its just that he is not that good. Being happy with CC Brown at FS is like being happy with Sage at starting QB. CC Brown is undersized, doesn't read coverages at all, and is very slow and weak in support. He lacks the ability to track the ball or make a play. He is a slightly better version of DeMarucs Faggins.

I don't mind Brown on our team, but as nothing more than a back-up/special teamer.

I think it might end up being BPA.

It will depend a lot on what's available. If they take Bush in the 1st, the only 2 positions that would be exempt would be QB and RB. I doubt a TE would go there either since Putzier is young, though.

I would love to see a guy like Johnathon Joseph if he is there or one of those FS already mentioned.

Leonard Pope looks really good to me. I think we need to use the majority of our picks on defense. I said majority not all of our picks. Why did we pass on DJ?

earl is pretty good when it comes to stopping the run though, i think both C.C brown and Earl have starting potential, but if i had to choose i'd go with c.c brown.

OT and CB will likely be the highest priority depending on what players of those positions are available (Eric Winston is a definite take if he's there, maybe Daryn Colledge, other than those two no OTs should be taken that high, Johnathan Joseph, Antonio Cromartie, maybe Ashton Youboty would be great picks here). Other than that, Nick Mangold should definitely be a consideration if he's available, and beyond that if one of the big three WRs (Jackson, Holmes, and Moss) is available we should look at taking one of them, maybe a FS, although I'd prefer they find a veteran one since Brown and Earl are both young already and FS sounds like it is going to be a key position in our defense.

I kind of think we may go MLB in the second...especially since Sam Cowart is only a one year deal...and pretty cheap at that. If D'Qwell Jackson is there in the second, I won't be suprised to hear his name

ERIC WINSTON!!!!!!!!! Trust me on this one. New starting LT. Even though I think Pitts makes a great LT. Just look at the game film, and it speaks for itself. Therefore, I will gaurantee it will be Winston.

BPA- depends who is there doesn't it? the only db I would draft this high would be Jimmy Williams, Tye Hill, Jason Allen or Jonathan Joseph any of those would be a possiblity. safety position is wide open, other than Huff who will be long gone the Texans could choose from Ko Simpson, Darnell Bing or Donte Whitner. the other defensive need (we have plenty of DT's & DE's) is middle linebacker, with both D'Qwell Jackson (who I understand is excellent in coverage- a weakness of Cowarts- so they could bring him in on passing situations) or Abdul Hodge. I also wonder if a DeMarco Ryans or Bobby Carpenter would project to a 43 MLB/MIKE.

depending on Bennie Joppru's status there could be a hidden opening for another TE in the draft more in the prototypical mold of a blocking well rounded prospect and there is one in this draft and thats Anthony Fasano out of ND, selecting him would mean the Texans have signed off on Joppru. I would expect the Texans to address the OL at least once if not twice in the draft, a tackle & guard/center. Pitts is now entrenched @ LT so that would mean a wide body to play RT. Eric Winston would fit that mold and have the abilty to switch over to play LT should something happen to Pitts. For a pure RT I would not be upset at all if the Texans went with Marcus MeNeil, he has the size and ability to step into the starting role immediatly the Texans will need to find out from interviewing him if he has the heart, but this cat can move, reminds me alot of Marcus Spears DT last year from LSU except 50 lbs heavier.

now here is the position I feel the Texans will address with the 2nd rd. pick WR. that is if Sinorice Moss is still available. Santonio Holmes is gone early probably a top 15 pick then all you have left between the Texans and moss are 15 teams and Chad Jackson, not sure if he'll last but if he does-

I'm hoping DeMeco Ryans falls into our lap in the 2nd round.

The texans still have needs at defensive end. They only have one true DE and thats weaver, and he lacks speed need to consistanly put pressure on the quarterback.
Jason Babin and antwan peeks are both unknowns at the defensive end position. If mathias kiwanka fell i could definatly see the texans picking him up.
Safety is not nearly the priority that corner is. We have two young safeties that the texans our high on. This staff will want to wait to see how they pan out before addressing the position with a high pick. And their's much more top talent at the top of round two at cornerback than safety. Antonio cromatie, johnathn joseph, ashton youboty vs. ko simpson, donter winter.

Well, thats just wrong.

Cromatie and Joseph would be great additions, and I would not be upset with either, but Ko Simpson and Donte Whittner are better at their respective positions. Youboty should not even be considered a top 40 pick.

I also do not think the staff is waiting to see how the S's "pan out", rather I think they are waiting to see which one of them falls to them in the draft.

You obviously don't quite get it, so think of it like this:

CC Brown starting at FS = Jay Foremen starting at MLB

Not convinced? Try this one:

CC Brown starting at FS = Matt Stevens starting at FS

CC Brown is nothing more than a back-up, and he was drafted accordingly. The fact that he even had to play this year should tell you immediatly what our needs are.

You wouldn't take Cromartie at 33?

I like Moss, but only if we do not draft Bush. Part of Bush's value to us is that he is multi dimensional. If we go Bush, which is most likely why would we go with Moss?

I'm still holding out hope that we draft "super mario". The Texans would be in a world of hurt if Weaver got hurt this year. I don't think the Texans will enter the season without adding another de.
