Default 3/21 Full Texan draft with explanations.

This is a Texan only mock, with no 7th round pick due to Walters. This is post-FA. I do not feel like looking at each team's needs and likely picks. No trades will be included in this draft, but I feel we SHOULD trade down, but we are too stupid to do that.

1. Bush - As much as I think we don't need him, he will bring a new dimension to our team. He is quick and light on his feet with superb vision. Well built for his size, but will not get bigger. He has a very low ceiling, but he also has a low floor. He is what he is, and he will not change much. I do not like this pick, but I am trying now to accept this moronic move.

2. Eric Winston - He was one of the faster and more agile OT's at the combine and at the Senior Bowl week. His upper body strength is not ideal, but he is very mobile, even when he is not fully recovered. He has a nasty streak, and can play RT. He was a top 10 lock at one point before his injury.

3. Jason Allen - This FS has proven he is over his injury. He ran a blazing 4.3 at the combine and has a nack for finding the ball. He was a first round lock prior to his injury. He is a bit undersized and will need to get stronger, but he is a FS, not a SS or CB.

3. Gerris Wilkerson - Wilkerson is a very underrated MLB who has all of the physical measurables you look for. He played under the radar and there has not been much talk about him. He is a very good player and would be a steal here. He has second round talent at least. The guy can motor across the field.

4. Ray Edwards - A starting DE is not what we need, but we still need depth pretty badly. Edwards has measurables off the chart. He is 6'7 and 285. He is raw, but I attribute that to bad coaching. He does also, and left school early becuase of it. He needs to work on technique and refine his moves, but he has all the ability and potential of any top DE including Mario. Think of him as an even more unpolished, slightly smaller Mario.

5. Greg Eslinger - He is a very fundamentally sound interior linemen. He is quick out of his stance and very quick laterally. Excells on the move. There are questions as to if he can hold up long enough at the point of attack. Mangold was gone in the first in case you were wondering. Chris Chester was gone in the fourth.

6. Chris Kuper - A very athletic OG. He is from a very small school. He is a project, and likely will take a year or so to develop fully. He lacks overall strength, but could wind up being one of the best zone-blocking OG's in this draft.

7. Kevin Walters - Our new white guy, a WR none-the-less.

have at it people.

Wow YTF you dont seemed overly enthused about your draft. I am pretty sure that Winston will not hit the second, so my question is who is another guy you feel will be there for us. Next Jason Allen while physically gifted plays S but fills in on the run like a DB. He is likely a second rounder, but he I think we could do better. Wilkerson in the third really. Not sure on that one shouldn't there be someone better there. Maybe even Putz clone Klop from Colorado. Ray Edwards is a value pick in the fourth and getting Eslinger in the 5th is freakin impressive. Interesting Mock...

Love the picks. Two issues though.

How is picking Bush moronic? Jeez, like sorry to force you into picking the best player in the draft. Let's have a pity party.

And what does "our new white guy" mean? Are you saying a WR has to be black? If so, isn't that just a tad racist?

Hey Coach, are you still as big on Eric Winston as ever, or having any second
thoughts ? I've been reading more and more things about how this years OT
crop, with the exception of Ferguson, is just not very impressive. Initially many believed this years OTs would be strong, but that sentiment is fading.
And with E.Winston in particular, there seems to be concern he hasn't recovered from his 2004 knee injury, even though he had a respectable combine. I know back in 2004 he was riding high, but doesn't seem to be
this same player even now in 2006.

I am very High on Winston. I feel he is the second best OT in the draft. I think on a whole he is better than Justice. As I look at the OL class for this draft it is quite solid. There are 3 First round quality tackles(Winston, Ferguson, Justice)and two interior lineman(Mangold, Jean-Gilles) that have first round ability. Winston had what most scouts considered one of the best combines and was in the top 4 in every measurable category that was out there. If you use Kirwan's theory he would be 2nd among tackles depending upon what Fergy put up. Most feel he is back from the injury and now is strengthing himself for the season at hand. I dont know, but if we get him in the second we just got the steal of the draft.

I'm not too enthused about this draft. This was an attempt to apease the masses and fill our needs. A trade down give me so much more to work with and makes everything fun. See this option:

7. A.J Hawk
33. Mangold
39. Whitner
65. Maurice Stovall
66. Jon Scott
71. Ray Edwards
97. Chris Chester
129. Greg Eslinger
161. Kevin Walters

This crop is still quite good, some of the guys like Marcus McNeill and Daryn Colledge that were once thought to be 1st round quality are slipping a little to early-mid 2nd round quality, but Ferguson and Eric Winston are still as high as ever. I haven't heard much about Winston Justice one way or another, probably will have to wait until their pro day in a couple weeks. As for Eric Winston, he had a very strong Combine and they said he had a strong pro day too and has shown great athleticism, so I don't think there are too many questions remaining about his kneee injury and his athleticism.

As for Ray Edwards, he's one of the more intriguing DE prosepcts in the draft, but he does not have anywhere near the current skill or potential of Mario Williams. Here is a better comparison of the two as of the Combine:

Height/Weight:
Mario Williams: 6' 7", 295 lbs.
Ray Edwards: 6' 4.5", 273 lbs.

Fastest 40 time:
Mario Williams: 4.66 sec.
Ray Edwards: 4.81 sec.

Short Shuttle time:
Mario Williams: 4.36 sec.
Ray Edwards: 4.57 sec.

3 Cone time:
Mario Williams: 7.19 sec.
Ray Edwards: 7.71 sec.

Vertical Jump:
Mario Williams: 40.5 inches
Ray Edwards: 39 inches

Bench Press Reps:
Mario Williams: 35
Ray Edwards: 30

Ray Edwards is a fine prospect and I would not overly mind getting him in the 4th round depending on what else we do in the draft and who's available there, but to put him in the same class as Mario Williams is quite a stretch. There is a reason Mario is a guaranteed top 5 pick and is getting some consideration as the #1 overall while Ray Edwards is projected as a 4th rounder.

I still find it funny how so many people are so down on having to "settle" for Reggie Bush. If you have to settle for someone that is the level of player that Bush is, you are in a pretty good scenario. I'm sure the Niners last year would have loved to settle for Reggie Bush.

I'm a little confused how Bush is a player with a low ceiling and low floor. You could say that he is a high ceiling and low floor player or a low ceiling and high floor player, but I don't believe that he is a low ceiling and low floor player.

Actually Low ceiling and Low floor gives him more room than low ceiling high floor. It is a point of he is what he is.

again you can't trade down if you don't have a trade partner.

Hmmm... settling for Reggie Bush? Wonder how many of the people who subscribe to this philosophy now were wishing and hoping for this opportunity, say during the last few weeks of the season. Personally, I think it stems from the bitterness of Houston not considering VY. So if we don't draft VY we must trade the pick. Just my
