Draft Thoughts?

The Texans now have seven picks in the upcoming NFL draft. They will select in the first round (1 st overall), second round (33 rd overall), twice in the third round (65 th and 66 th overall) and once each in the fourth (95 th overall), fifth (129 th overall) and sixth rounds (161 st overall).

I think the Texans will have a 7th round compensatory pick, as well. Those picks should be released during the league meetings next week.

Who would be the compensatory pick be for? Do we get one for Gaffney?

Probably the only way a DT gets drafted is if someone drops several rounds below their grade. The Texans have a surplus of DT's and plenty of holes to fill elsewhere.

If Broderick Bunkley drops out of the first we will draft him, other than that if there is a stud in the 6th he would be an option, if we have gotten every other player we needed or wanted.

The pick wouldn't be for the loss of a player, but to fulfill the total number of draft choices per the CBA. In '04, the Giants, Chargers, and Raiders received the last 3 picks in the compensatory section of the 7th round because they had the worst 3 records and that draft needed to include 255 picks.

If there aren't enough compensatory picks to fill out the draft (I don't think there will be), the worst teams will get the remaining extra picks. And no team was worse than the Texans. That would leave the Texans with a late, late, late 7th round draft choice.

Winston will not fall to the 2nd round. He pretty much assured himself a first round selection with his performence at the combine.
I dont like the idea of drafting a DT in the first day. We already have R.Smith, S.Payne, T.Johnson, and T.Weaver on certain downs.....

That is a very good point. I think that with his combine performance, he placed himself over Marcus McNeill on alot of draft boards, especially since I think that he can play both the right and left sides.
