I always liked Hilliard. Him and Amani Toomer were a pretty good duo for the Giants for a few years. I wouldn't mind if we got him, but he's getting up there in age. He'll turn 30 this year and his production hasn't been that great the last 3 or 4 years. I would much rather have Burleson. He's younger and has more potential. A tandem of Burleson and AJ would be much more lethal than a duo of AJ/Ike.

Hmm, I don't know if these guys are going to mount to much even if we do land them.

Cowart is getting up there in age, as is Hilliard. Hilliard hasn't been very effective for a few years.

After we get Cowart and Hilliard, we should target LB - MO LEWIS and WR - HERMAN MOORE !!!!
Cuz you just know they WERE good.......LIKE 5 or 7 years ago. NOW, lets throw in some stupid big money......and then all we have to do is chalk up the next 5 years for a PIECE of $*#! team. This is disgusting! :brickwall |

Are we bringing Ike Hilliard to talk about being a coach? Are we doing a favor for an agent by bringing him in? They cannot be serious about signing this cat.

How about reserve the hand wringing for when and if someone's signed? Unless it brings pleasure, then by all means continue ....

If they were signing Ike Hilliard to be their NO. 1 WR it would be one thing, but they are just looking at him to fill another number. Sure, I would rather have Nate Burleson, but at least they are covering their rears if they don't get Nate. Ike is better than Bradford.

Ike Hilliard stinks right now, and I hope the Texans don't get him.
Cowart can still play and will be a decent addition at a position where we need depth. |

I am pretty excited about Cowart. Sure, he is no youngster. I believe he is around 31, so age is a slight issue, but it's not as if he is 37. This was a guy picked in the 2nd rd, and has been to a pro-bowl in 2000, and is a serious upgrade at MLB for us imo. I hope we can get him.
As to Ike, less enthused....but, the real question is do you want Ike, and whatever player you can get at the first spot in round three, or Burleson. If it's just those two players straight up, it's no contest. But, when considering that Nate costs us our third, and Ike doesn't, things even out a bit more. I think I would lean toward Nate regardless, but when put in those terms it's not a slam dunk to me. I'm just glad that we are bringing in guys, at least it shows we are trying to upgrade this team. Keep it up guys!

Right. Cowart's not a great player any more, but he's serviceable, and would fill a clear need. He is probably the best free agent middle line-backer on the market (which is a week one at that position) and as far as I'm aware there are no very highly regarded MLB prospects in the draft. In any case, our D could use some extra experience. Drafting Thurman or Tatupu a year ago instead of trading for Buchanon might have been better, but what's done is done, and right now he looks like the best option out there. If the price was reasonable, I'd like to see him sign.
Hilliard, on the other hand, sucks. I'm not sure he'd be an upgrade over Bradford; I'm quite sure he wouldn't be an upgrade over Armstrong. |

I would think that is a pretty good LB corps. Cowart is 31 but he still has a few years left in him. I would be happy to get him.

As someone who watched most Tampa games last year, I can assure y'all that Hilliard still has a lot left in the tank. He was a very reliable third receiver and actually moved up to second for a good part of the season with Clayton injured. He didn't wow with numbers - remember, the Bucs are a power running team with Cadillac Williams - but he was steady and reliable and developed a reputation for making difficult catches. He's most certainly an upgrade over Bradford, if for no other reason than he has reliable hands.
Numbers aren't the whole story on players. Ask any Tampa fan, and they'll tell you the same thing... Hilliard can still play. |

Ok, I agree that Hilliard can still play, but not a solid fit for this team. He has lost a step and is not much better than a slot guy. With Mathis, Armstrong, possibly Bush, and Walter on the team dont you think we have enough slot type guys. Cowart on the other hand is a waste of time. Terry Pierce and possibly rocky McIntosh or Leon williams could take care of the MLB position till Wong recovers.

Don't get me wrong, I am a Texan fan thru and thru.......but.
There are moments during the offseason when I stare at this screen and read our FA signings and I have to ask myself..............why am I a Texan fan? Why did we just throw 13 million at a DE who in four years has 14.5 sacks? This looks to me like another Greenwood signing. 6.4 million with a 2 million signing bonus for a receiver who caught 19 passes and one touchdown! Is he supposed to be better than Gaffney? I think we are worse in FA than we are in the draft. So far we have aquired: Smith Wade Rivers Greenwood Pbuc Norris Zack The Tackle we got from the Pats for one year, cant remember his name Riley Wong Bruener This year isnt shaping up to be any better. There are only two on this list that are even half way decent, Smith and Zack. I am not impressed with Wong, sorry, his 4 to 5 sacks a year are just not that impressive to me. In the mean time we let Sharper, Glenne, Foley, Posey, and Gaffney hit the streets. Why does Casserly still have a job!? Thats just how I feel about it.

Draft is also deep at this position, so good backers are expected to be available into the middle rounds. |
