I guess they are saying 'we want to win now' and we are saying 'we hope to be at the point of thinking about .500 in a few years'.

it apprears we only want to sign younger guys. I dont have a problem with that, but you better make sure you are signing players that can play (unlike what we've done in the past). at least the older guys are proven.

Yeah it worked out really well signing Walker to the extension we gave him at his age and coming off of injury.

I agree that older players can still play, but when they are past their mid 30's and start suffering injuries like the one he suffered muscles/joints, they start to break down. He is at the end of his career, I would rather have someone younger and cheaper that will be here when we get this thing turned around. The Titans will be serching for another center in a few seasons.

Well I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it works out. I still think we'll be able to find a quality center in the draft and Hodgdon didn't do a bad job at all when he played. Maybe the team feels they already have a quality center on the team.

Whats the name for it? Gash and Rebuild or something. Basically giving up a season of contending, which is dangerous for your fans, but then you have the cap later on.

I dont really know how the money works out, but he got a 5 year deal worth 24 million. 8 is a SB, so thats 16 million divided by 5; or 3.2 a year plus his SB of around 2 million a year.

I might be totally wrong, but it looks to me more like 3.5 to 5 million a season, depending on how they pay him the SB.

I would think they would backload a lot of the salary. most of these contracts never make it to their end anyway. they want the guaranteed money.

Tennessee does have a habit of backloading contracts a lot, which is why they end up getting in cap problems like they had last year once those big salaries become due, so for those first couple years his cap hit probably isn't too bad. However, Mr. Ferens probably would have doubled that signing bonus in order to get him to come here, and at $5+ million a year I'm fine with us not getting him. He would have been nice, but wouuld have been another one of those overpaid guys, and there are plenty of bigger possession WRs in the draft that we can go get anywhere from the 2nd-5th rounds that would be useful, maybe not great immediately but by the end of next season.
