Default Four Things Id Like To See From The New Coaches

1) Open competition for every starting position. Granted, some of these competitions will be pretty short, such as those for #1 receiver or for the first starting cornerback. However, they need to be the honest competitions regardless of extraneous consideration. For example, salary shouldn’t be a concern. If a lower paid player is better, play him.

2) Put the players in a position to succeed. The players should be played where they can make maximum use of their talents within the team structure. In other words, play the player at his strongest position, but there are some exceptions to this. For example we may have a player who is a better right guard then left guard, but we’d have to play him on the left because that gives us the stronger overall line.

3) Put in offensive and defensive schemes that take advantage of our strengths and cover our weaknesses. In a related area, game plan to exploit the opponent’s weaknesses and neutralize their strengths.

4) Hold the players and staff accountable for the on field performance of the team.

Default huh!

Sounds like what we all should always see from coaches, just that Dom never showed any of these aspects and I'm hoping Casserly doens't rub off on Kub's!!! We should see those characteristics though!

I guess that should have been my caveat.

I thought of this post after seeing "3 O-line Positions Are Set" in the McKinney Chronicle article today.

#s 2 and 3 will be huge, personally. Both are something we never saw under the former regime.

I am not sure if #1 was an issue, did anyone else think it was? ... For sure, people played that shouldn't have, but I always attributed it to bad evaluation or maybe just good practice, something like that.

I like it. Now if we can just get a strong draft & FA behind us and then apply these stategies.

Not sure why the previous staff had such a problem implementing this type of thinking?

#1: With the new coaching staff coming in..this will most likely be the case. From what I understand.. a new staff will usually reevaluate every position.

#2: Good News! This is Kubiak's forte. That is how he works... he doesnt get caught up on what we may NEED a player to do..so much as what they CAN do. Basicly.. instead of coming up with a formula, then taking the players you have and forcing them into it.. he takes his players, then makes a formula that fits them.

#3: More good news!.. I dunno about our offense.. but on our Defense that is exactly the route we are going. Previously..we tried to outsmart opponents..which lead to lots of thinking and very little playing. Now we are gonna play basic, smashmouth football.. and we are going to focus on exploiting weaknesses instead of trying to be "tricky"

#4: time will tell.

Play to win!! Screw the "Keep it Close" model. Might go down in flames, but if we are going for it full tilt....so what.

You got it nailed. Keep it close and who knows what can happen late in the game is what finally turned me against Capers. I can not believe a coach at any level would say "Show up, pray hard and a miracle might just happen." Sorry for ranting, but that Keep it Close torches me. ARGH!:brickwall
