from NY Newsday:
BY BOB GLAUBER STAFF WRITER March 8, 2006 Leigh Steinberg, the agent for USC quarterback Matt Leinart, said yesterday the Jets have contacted him to set up a private workout sometime in April. Leinart is scheduled to have his pro day workout at USC on April 2. It's uncertain whether the Jets would stage the workout in California or New York. http://www.newsday.com/sports/printe...y-sports-print

So they aren't interested in Reggie.
Looks like there would be a reasonable chance of trading down to 4 and still getting Reggie |

I think there is a chance ... but realistically, if we are dead set on Reggie, I think we'd do better to pick him at #1, where he's a sure thing.
Too early to know who is married to what prospect (and what that team will give up to get said prospect) but I think it is risky to put three teams ahead of us for any player this year really, be it one of the big QBs or Bush.

I agree. I think that if we are sold on Reggie (I think we are) then we are just going to stay where we are and pick him.

The only way the Jets will covet our #1, is if they grade Lienart way, way above the others....... which they might.
I also don't think this means much more than the Jet's keeping their options open. Heck, they may be targeting Cutler, and want to get a feel for how low they can go, and still get him.

Could just be evaluating them all, because one will drop to them. Might just be making sure they are all worth the #4 and if they are just sit back, light the stogie and see what drops into their lap. If they don't all look like winners at the 4 spot, then they MIGHT look at a move up, but I doubt it. More likely to try and move down IMO.

Of course they are planning to bring in Lienart, Young, and Cutler for private workouts just like they will bring in Bush, Williams, Hawk, and several others. This is standard practice for all teams with high draft picks to bring in the best players and pick them apart with workouts and interviews.

I agree with the mindset that if you want Bush, take him #1. The Jets are talking to Ramsey's agent, and allegedly the Saints have offered the most guaranteed money to Brees. The $10 million dollar raise in salary cap is giving a lot of teams more options. It's possible that there won't be a bunch of QB's taken in the first few picks like everyone has thought.

Call me crazy, but all of this works to our detriment, doesn't it? Reduces the value of the pick and reduces the number of people wanting the pick. It feels like all the air is going out of the top of the draft because suddenly everyone has a windfall.
