I'd rather have Bruce for a year or two. He's old though, we'd need to find a replacement soon. Mathis could be that guy. Signing Bruce to a short contract could give Mathis the time he needs to develop.

I like Givens but would rather have Bruce for 2 years. I just think Bruce still runs a GREAT route.

I dunno...Givens is good and so is Bruce. It's all about money in my book...and you guys know that teams are going to maybe overpay for Givens, and not so much for Bruce...we'll see though.
The Givens-is-from-the-Houston-area factor may play a role in this.

I think all the above about Bruce is true and good.
But, C'mon another Givens in Houston. That just sounds too good. I know, our Givins had an I and he has an e but it sounds good. |

The whole "from Houston" statement is one im not crazy about...it seems ppl go out of their way to find players that are from Houston to plug into the team thinking that they will become better than what they are, which is a slightly above average #2 WR. I think both would help this team a lot but Id give the edge to Bruce having been a #1 and having won a superbowl...

Lets start with the facts,
Givens is young, Bruce is old. Bruce's production fell off considerably this year, but Givens has never been of Bruce's caliber. Cris Carter was very good up until he was 36. If Bruce can replicate that he's worth signing. If you think David Givens can be a TJ Housh-type performer with a stud #1 receiver, then you sign him. Bruce likely desires a winning situation at this point in his career, or at least someone closer than 2-14. So you'll have to overpay him vs. St. Louis and others. Givens won't be that costly if you are willing to guarantee a little more money up front. He's young, and can afford to help a team rebuild. No good #2 will come cheaply, so I think you base the decision on your assesment of talent. |

I'm glad we're showing interest; I like Givens, though he might not come as cheaply as Bruce. I'm hoping we land Putzier too.

both guys would be a good fit becuase both are used to winning, and expect it out of their teamates. i think both these guys would push others to their potential and that is worth half of the price to me. but if i had to choose, i'd say bruce. he may be older but his leadership and wisdom is something we need in our young offense. but, either name sounds better than bradford.

i've said this in the nfl part of the forum...but with bruce we would also get a veteran reciever who could mentor these young recievers of ours...teach them how to play the game for years to come...something andre, gaff, and mathis have not had unless you count bradford
plus there is no telling what bruce could do for a carr...carr has never had an experienced reciever like bruce...he could teach carr a lot about QB to WR relations in the NFL
