A lot of us are looking at players offensively and defensively and the Texans keep saying I don't know. Perhaps that's because we don't know what we are going to be doing yet. Perhapes we are still in the designing stage of the book. I would think that is the case, but does anyone have any first hand knowledge of where this part of the puzzle is? I believe the previous organization had a year or so to develop a plan before they had to utilize it. I would think this in itself is a major priority and one that is going to make it tough on Kubiack and his staff. Its not like he has a plan he has already used that is his own. Yes, he has been involved in a lot of schemes, but I would think he would be putting together something that would be unique to the way he thinks things should be done. Will he keep any part of the previous play books? Defense 4-3 to 3-4 and offensively well throw that book away. Young Shan I believe was hired in part because that's what he did a lot of last year. He made up a lot of the play book after it was given to him. He was a paper pusher in his previous job among other things.

I thought they just changed the logo on the Bronco's playbook.

The Texans offense will be very similar to the Broncos offense. It probably won't be a mirror image of it, but it's not like Kubiak is going to design a completely new offense just for the Texans. He'll probably innovate it some, change things up here and there, but the foundation for our offensive scheme comes from the Broncos. I don't think building the playbook is the first priority for the Texans though. Evaluating our roster and college talent should be the main priority. Once the draft is over, then I think the coaches will get to work on the playbook.

While there are core concepts that a team will employ, a playbook (even boring, non creative offenses) is never really finished. It is an evolving process of adding somethings new and adjusting what you do versus certain schemes etc.
Kubiak and Calhoun already have a base core playbook for offense and smith one for defense, but the formations and play are constantly changing. What is used out that book also should be influenced by the personnel that the team has at hand. |

While I agree with what some of you are saying, doesn't it have to be put in print? I'm just wondering if its a bigger job than we think or do you think they will simply duplicate some things and rebinder it?

Offensive playbook (other than new tweaks coaches add each offseason) was completed from the day Kubiak signed his contract. Definsively I think a lot will be learned at mini camps and will have to be tailored to the Texans personnel.

shanahan, Sherman, Kubes....... this is what they do.. they live, breath, and drink up offensive schemes and plans all the time. They've probably got rooms and rooms full of books of plays and sets that they've been waiting to find the right players to fit. I'd assume they are looking at our WRs, and instantly think up three or four chapters they'd like to run...... same with our line, our QB, and our RBs..... They've probably been doing lunch over the last 4 weeks trying to get a cohesive plan together... It's going to look a little like Denver, SanFran, and Greenbay....
There's going to be a lot of running, a lot of throwing............deep. and hopefully a lot of scoring... But no, the playbook is never finished.... not with guys like these.
