Default Henson Impressive

I thought that Drew Henson looked good last night for not playing a game in too long. He made a couple of passes that looked as if he still has some ability. He's still a long way from being a solid NFL quarterback, but I think Dallas has a potentially good QB. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a good amount of playing time this season just to help him learn a little bit. I still think the Texans got the better end of the deal and the way Carr looked last night...they made the smarter deal .

I agree. I must admit I was looking forward to seeing him play, and I thought he did well. He looked poised and confident in the pocket. He made a few bad throws, but that can be remedied with practice and a few more game snaps. Compared to Romo, he looked like John Elway lol.

I think Henson looked pretty good against our second team. The C'boys problem is how to develop him. If they want to pretend that last years results (with Quincy, Galloway and Hambrick) mean anything, then they have to try and win as many games as possible this year (with Testiverte, Keyshawn and George) and try to at least win one playoff game, to show improvement. I don't think many people think the best way to do that is with a rookie, three years from his last college game. On the other hand, if they don't commit to developing Henson until next year, then they are futher delaying the time when they will be truly competitve again. 3 years of 5-11, followed by a year of Quincy, Galloway and Hambrick. Do they have to wait another year before they try to develop their Superbowl potential team?

Hiring Parcells did distract the media from talking about all of the Cowboys misadventures in their 5-11 years, but is it the solution? Parcells is a good coach, but can he carry a team to the Superbowl by himself? What is the trend?

Giants under Parcells - 2 Superbowls;
Patiots under Parcells - lost Superbowl (Pats win 2 with another coach afterwards)
Jets under Parcells - didn't get to Superbowl.

Is there a trend here?

henson reminded me of a young aikman...he actually with a helment on looks like the previous all star for the cowboys...although it is clearly too early to say henson is the next aikman i think it's fair to say that henson has a promising career

i guess you guys all missed how low he threw the ball...all of his receivers had to make an extra effort to catch the ball...the reason he looked so good is cuz testaverde and romo looked so bad.

Henson played remarkably well for someone who has been completely out of
football for what - 3 years or so ? He has a strong arm - you either got it or
you don't, catn't teach it. I wish we could have got more for him, never the
less, conveting a 6th round pick into a 3rd rounder is a real good return on investment. Time will tell, but I think theres gonna be some teams who regret they didn't step up and make more of an effort to get him under contract.

I thought Henson looked impressive but, against backups. I don't think that it would be the same situation versus the starters. But, he did show the tools to become a good qb.

I kinda wonder why some of ya are so "gaga" over Henson. Is it because he was a former draft choice of ours? If you are a cowboys' fan ,that is understandable. Personally, I could care less. My support fully goes to Carr; he looked very sharp last night and he was going against Dallas' #1 (rated) defense. The offense scored 10 points; it could had been 14 pts. if the playcalling was better. As for Henson...he did well against our 2nd and 3rd string defense. Considering we didn't generate any pass rush against him.he showed poise in finding his receivers. I was going to put this comment in a separate post...I was ( po'ed) at Sportscenter's report of our game after the game last night. All they showed was Parcell's griping aboht his team's poor showing and ranking Henson as one of top 3 QB's last night. As far as I can tell, Henson had good stats ; but did he score any points? No!!!

It's not so much that a rookie QB did well against our 2nd and 3rd string defense. It's that a rookie QB who's been out of football for 3 years was able to do well against our 2nd and 3rd string defense. Being a QB in the NFL is supposed to be one of the toughest positions in the leauge to adjust to coming from college. Imagine making that adjustment after trying to hit a curve ball, and playing 3rd base in the minor leagues. That is quite unusual from a rookie QB. No one is by any means bashing Carr, or implying we should've kept Henson. We're simply stating that he, along with Jones, was a bright spot for the Cowboys. He seemed comfortable in the pocket when most thought he'd be uneasy, and he also did a decent job of engineering a drive. Albeit he didn't score any points, but neither did anyone else on the Dallas sidelines. He looked all the better in comparison to Testaverde and Romo mostly because they played poorly, as did the entire team. I believe most people would say the same about Ben Rothelisburger if he does well against our 2nd or 3rd string defense. Being as it is the preseason, I think most people are quick to praise good play on either side, and why not. There's no harm in it.

Compared to Quincy Carter Henson will be a world beater.

He looked good to me. He is a rookie and will make those mistakes reading defenses (even vanilla ones) but as far as pocket presense and all he looks good.

Henson was the only one who looked like he knew what was going on out there. To me their patchwork team hasn't had the time to gel yet and it showed.
Not that it means anything, but I'm glad that Renteria got his shot at Henson.
That was nice.

Henson delivered and has an arm. He made a bad mental mistake for the interception, but that will be ironed out in time. From what I saw he looked like a good athletic QB, poised and in control.

While he was having all this success against the 2nd teamers...wasn't he also playing WITH 2nd teamers?

No ... he was behind the #1 OL going against our #2 DL.

To qualify to 'steal' Henson with a 3rd round pick, the C'boys first had to fail to draft him in the 4th or 5th round ahead of the Texans in a previous draft. Next, they had out bid the other 31 teams in terms of compensation to the Texans and significant financial commitment to Henson.

At best, you can say that the C'boys missed on Henson only once, while the other 30 teams missed on him twice.

So much praise. ( I'm aware its just your opinion)

I notice you still question the progress of Carr from time to time in some of your posts.

Exactly what did Henson do for you to express the opinion that he will be dynamite in a year or so?
You're not John McLain in stealth are you? :hehe:

I was more impressed with Julius Jones. I think he will be the best running back taken in the draft this year. Of course I'm a hopeless domer fan.

Oh crud here comes the wrath of Vinnie.

Of Henson's 11 pass attempts, he completed 8:

Darian Barnes (2nd Teamer)
Antonio Bryant (2nd Teamer)
Rashard Lee (4th Teamer)
Patrick Crayton (3rd Teamer)
Jason Witten (2nd Teamer)
Randall Williams (2nd Teamer)
Julius Jones (2nd Teamer)

Those were the players on the receiving end. Now I don't recall anybody saying the reason why Henson looked impressive was because he had all day to sit back and throw the ball because it was Dallas' #1 OL vs Houston's #2 DL. In fact, he was sacked in the 3rd QTR (but I guess Dallas still had their #1's in at that time...right?).

Imagine you see a T-shirt on sale for $5, but you don't buy it. The next day, you decide it really was a great T-shirt so you go back to buy it. Unfortunately, now it costs $10. You still thinks it's worth it, so you buy it. The problem is that even though $10 is a fair price for the T-shirt, every time you wear it, you remember you could have bought it for $5.

I choose to think that Jerry Jones will remember he could have had Henson for a fifth round pick instead of having to outbid 30 other teams for his services.

I don't follow the C'boys very closely, so I'm sure you're right. Don't C'boy fans consider Witten and Bryant front line players? Did Bryant play with Testeverde in the game? Perhaps our difference is definitional. I consider Bradford, Gaffney and Johnson all to be first teamers, along with Bruener, Miller and Norris.

Also, I was only watching Babin at that point of the game and I'm pretty sure that the right tackle hadn't changed, although we'd changed Walker, DeLoach and Smith. That's why I said OL versus DL, although I confess I couldn't name the starting O-line of the C'boys and I have no idea if some were hurt, etc.
