Cool offense wins games defense wins championships

all the hype about young, or bush is good, but you also have to notice that the texans defense is not that big of a threat. ray lewis is not happy at baltimore, so a good move would be to get this old machine and have one of the best linebackers that play the game now be your mike linebacker. john abraham from the jets is also a person that is not happy in his current situation.. with those two players added to the line up, the image of a bull pen would make a drastic change.. good teams revolve around good defenses.. the steelers, the partiots.. the broncos, the previous 5 super bowl winners have all had good, or great defenses... you think about it and let me know what you think....

Ray Lewis and Abraham would BOTH likely cost upwards of 8 Million per year .... Those teams you mention above dont throw money around like that . They build thru the draft and are thrifty via FA...... Adding 16million + on two players doesnt seem like a good idea to me considering all the other holes this team has

Sure it would put people in the stands and maybe give some fans lofty expectations but in the long run I dont think it gets the team to its Ultimate Goal

I beleive its "Offensive Sells Tickets" "Defense Wins Championships"...Anyways...I beleive adding Abraham and Ray would also be a good idea...We need the veteran leadership that ray can bring and the talent they both bring...Im dont think we would be able to pull them both but I think if we could it would bring a whole new aspect to our young defense and would give us the upper hand that we need.

All these options kinda suck. How about two to four solid pickups in FA. Bentley possible, Chris Hope hopeful, and a young FA LB or CB, and Teyo Johnson. Then a solid draft highlighted by the selection of Mario Williams.

I agree. While adding one of these players would be nice, adding both is not feasable IMO.

You don't BUILD a team via FA. You add a missing piece through FA....you BUILD through the draft. That is why I still think we have a ways to go as a team before we see the playoffs.

Word up. I'd love if a scenario like that played out for the Texans. Talk about some major talent upgrades.

I'm not sure I understand this poll, though. The choices seem to be unrelated, IMO.

Well, I know that we haven't done a good job of it so far....but that is how the good teams do it. That's how you are SUPPOSED to do it. That's one of the reasons why we're not a good team. Our previous coaching staff and Casserly haven't done a good job in this area...at least we don't think they have. Hopefully, the new coaching staff will shed some light on this.

Instead we trade away valuable picks (especially for a young franchise) for unproven players like PBurnt. OR, we trade away valuable picks to a division rival to move up a few spots to take a player like Babin. OR, the players that we have taken *cough..Carr...cough* haven't lived up to expectations so far.

So, to answer your question: Hopefully we start NOW...we're already five years behind.

Building a Football Team is an ONGOING process . It doesnt end in one offseason ..... Even if you win the Superbowl .... next year its time to go thru the whole process again .

When do we start ? ..... The process has been in motion for the past four seasons ..... Some positions have been silodified thru the draft .... DD , Carr , AJ , Gaffeny , D-Rob , Pitts , T.Johnson , J.Mathis and a few others ..... While others have been neglected or picks at the position just havent panned out ..... TE w/ Joppru , OLB w/ Babin and Peek , LT w/ Seth Wand ...... Other positions have been filled w/ draft picks and have quietly gone about their business or havent seen a lot of playing time ..... Glenn Earl , CC Brown , Demarcus Faggins , Drew Hodgdon ....

This team has a lot of holes .... But in general they have done well in the draft . Four drafts does not a team build .

An expansion team is five years behind before they make their first selection in the expansion draft ....It usually takes 5-7 seasons before these teams are on par talent wise with the established teams in the NFL ....

As for the P-Burnt and Babin deals .... Casserly got P-Burnt on both

I don't agree with the saying that offense wins games and D wins championships. I mean they both have to win games what good would it do you if your d won championships, but never won enough games to get there. You need both IMO.

I don't think we have done well in the draft, at all...

Gaffney hasnt produced- 33rd pick
Joppru has never played a down- high 2nd
that Dt from maryland cut in camp? 3rd round
2nd + 3rd for pburnt?
2nd + 3rd + 4th for Babin?
Seth Wand? 3rd
thats 9 picks, 8 on the first day alone. you build your depth on the first 3-4 rounds, and 8 of our 10 first day picks from the beginning have come close to busting. thats a horrible horrible job.
we did good on AJ(no brainer), Drob(10th pick, not exactly a crap shoot), DD(our only steal), and pitts(hes alright).

and the other part, we were on our "5-year plan". this was supposed to be playoff year since that is how we were supposedly building with youth and blah blah blah. fact is the FO blew it and most of their "building" turned out to be bad moves.

The five year plan doesnt make them a play-off team .... Thats just the point where their talent level should be on par with the rest of the NFL . No matter what the front office or PR people say ....

What your'e saying would sure come across better if this was not the worse team in the NFL--Texans are the first new age expansion team not to make the playoffs by their 4th year, and fall further from their 1st season.

We just spent 4 years being drilled with (1) 5 yr plan (2) build thru draft (3) time to gel, etc. , so it's a little soon to start the excuses all over again. If there were a SuperBowl for making excuses, we'd win hands down.

I would like to see them win some games first and then get the championship(s). Meaning get the offense going and then shore up the Defense (ala) INDY. They haven't won the Superbowl yet, but they are alot more fun to watch. Not having an Offense or Defense gets you the first pick in the draft.

why would u want to pick up Ray Lewis at the end of his career.....look what Warren Sapp is doing. Also if you remember we did have 2 pretty good veterans on D last year (Sharper-Glenn) but decided to let them go and get nothing in return.....that still bogles my mind.
