Texans, Please Tradedown!

No 1 player is greater than the team. With that said this coming draft could be the solution to all the problems we have had these past 4 years. Well maybe not all to be honest but a vast majority. We could possibly pick up the best LT in Ferguson if the we trade down with the jets and still come out with Lawson at #33, the best OG in Giles at #36, Marshall at #65, Wimbeley/Colledge at #66, Klopfenstein at #68, and every other good prospect that's out there. Plus we would get the Jets #1 next year to add in our atempts to bringing this organization to a competive level and eventually a SB Champioinship. I know there are alot Texan fans that believe that RB is the "Answer" but I've never witnessed a dynasty winning with just one player. In my opionion Rb's are a dime a dozen and next year wouldn't it sound nice if we picked up somebody like A. Peterson from OU. Trading out of the #1spot would raise the level of competitiion within the Texans organization, something that has been lacking in the past.

i am in favor of trading down but defintely not in favor of taking lawson with the 33rd pick unless we mop up in FA...please benltey....please

IF we can work out that sort of trade..... good. But we aren't the only one who wants Ferguson, and the Jets aren't salivating to move up. Someone with more picks will get that spot, not us.

I have no problem with D'Brickashaw, but Lawson would have to play the same position as Babin or Peek. Why waste #33 on that spot. Gilles is the highest rated guard in the draft, but unless Kubiak decides to go away from a zone blocking scheme Gilles is not a fit for this team. He's not agile enough. I like Marshall and could be a good pickup. I'd rather see Joseph from South Carolina, but it will depend on who is there. I don't like Wimbley for the same reasons as Lawson. They'd need to bulk up to play Weakside DE. Colledge could be a good pickup if they don't draft Ferguson. I don't see 2 rookie tackles drafted.

I do agree with the trade down, but I would go with Mario Williams, Eric Winston, and Nick Mangold as the first 3 selections with Johnathan Joseph and maybe a FS in the 3rd.

This is the hardest thing to deal with in the draft this year. The teams that may want to give up a lot to move to #1 are teams that have less holes and are drafting in the mid to late 1st round. I don't know if the Texans want to move that low. Plus, getting someone like Denver's 1st round pick next season isn't as enticing when they always pick #25 or later. I know it's not always, but it sure seems like it. Man, wouldn't that be nice?

The Jets, Titans, and Saints all seem content with the knowledge that they will get Bush, Young, Leinart, or Ferguson. All could use a premier LT. The QBs would be either an upgrade or in the Titans case a guy to learn under McNair for a year. Neither the Saints nor Titans need/want Bush, but will have their choices in the other players or could make a trade themselves. The Packers may seem to be the team to target. It's going to be interesting.

I can see the Texans calling New Orleans on draft day and telling them that if they want Leinert then they better move up to get him because they are being flooded with offers from teams to move up to get him. The Texans move down to the number 2 spot and Leinert is off the board.

The Texans now call the Titans and tell them if you want Vince Young you better move up to get him because we are being flooded with offers from teams to move up to get him. The Texans once again move down. Texans are at the number 3 spot and Young is off the board.

The Texans can now take Bush or call the Jets and tell them the same thing they told the Saints and Titans and move down to take Ferguson or Williams.

I really see a multiple trade scenario coming on draft day. If the Texans stay close to the top by only trading down 1 slot each time I think they can garner enough picks in this draft and possibly 2007 and 2008 to have the chance to build a championship team.

The main flaw with the tradedown scenario (which I am favor of if we get fair compensation) is that there may not be many teams fighting to move up to #1.

This is the combo I'm really hoping for with the first three picks, but I am pretty sure they will look for a TE in the 3rd, maybe even the 2nd. I have no problems using a 3rd rounder on a worthy TE or even using one of our two 2nd rounders (obviously assuming we trade down and get a second one) on a TE that is worthy of that high of a pick, but I personally would rather see Mario then two OLinemen and a CB before TE.

You realize there are only 12-15 minutes between picks and that is a lot of calling and convincing other teams in that short time span, plus other teams aren't stupid and they will have their ears open and have somewhat of an idea what teams are looking to do and trade for the draft, so they won't be conned into giving us a boatload of stuff for Leinart just because we called them and said another team wants him. The only way you could do that is to receive really small bounty from each team for moving down one spot at a time. You could maybe trade down with the Titans if all you get from them is a 2nd rounder, then a similar trade with the Jets to move from 3-4 and grab their 2nd or 3rd rounder. It would give us a couple extra picks and if we target Mario as our #1 guy then we still get him out of it, but we're not going to be getting future 1sts and 2nds and that kind of stuff from these teams.

Guess it depends on what you mean by boatload and really small. See IMO getting a 2nd to move down from #1 to #2 an not lose either option being debated on this MB is more than really small (especially considering the cap savings on the same player), particularly since it would be about the 34th pick in the draft. This does happen--see Detroit milking Cleveland for a 2nd rounder to move from #7 to #6 to take Winslow.

I understand. I would be perfectly happy moving down to #4 and only acquiring a 2nd this year and a 2nd next year from them. That his hardly equal value on the pick value chart (many people on here have demanded a far superior ransom than what the value chart says because of Bush/Vince being at the top of the draft) but to me I like it because I would rather get Mario Williams than any other player in the 1st round, and this trade allows us to do that and acquire extra picks in the process. To me, I'm willing to accept smaller trades like that, but other people have mentioned requiring this year's 2nd and 3rd and next year's 1st and 3rd from a team and get a bigger deal than what the Chargers got for Eli. Obviously if we can swing a deal like that it would be great, but I was trying to say I don't expect any of the top 4-6 teams giving us an offer like that because there will be very talented guys at their draft position, and at the same time I personally would not require a trade like that to move down a few spots. I also don't see us being able to trade to #2, then trade to #3, then trade to #4, those trades obviously wouldn't each net us a very high ransom, but still organizing trades and then getting them approved by the league takes time, and I don't see us starting the serious trade talks that early before the draft that we would have time for that many individual trades, and I don't see multiple teams each willing to move up one spot.

Tannenbaum has a lot of work to do with the Jets. They are in a horrid cap situation, have an abundance of declining veteran players, and not a strong nucleus of talent. Take all of that and then tell them they are losing the NYC battle to the Giants and you have a team that is aching to get some prime time. Who better than Leinhart or Bush. Yeah I think we will have to sell somewhat short, but that is not a problem to me because right now Mario Williams is my player. Trade with the jets for 1st, 2nd, next years 1st, conditional 4th, and I am a happy camper.

We get Mario Williams, Eric Winston, and Mangold with our first three picks and we are looking a good bit stronger. I am hoping we land Hope and Bentley in FA and then there is no need for a FS in the high part of the draft. I take Jonathan Joseph, Demario Minter, or Richard Marshall in the third and then get the vaunted TE either Fasano, Klop, T.J. Williams, or one of the top 4 that happens to drop. If I felt that The TOP 3 guys in this draft were as good as Mario or other guys then I would say dont trade, but in a division with tough offenses and defenses I would like to see the most improvement on the D side of the ball. Our coach is an offensive guy and he will get that ship righted, on D though we were horrid, and D wins championships.

So to those that want to trade down I applaud thee.
