How about blame nobody? people question his passing ability and he has the confidence to show them otherwise. Very refreshing, very confident, and very impressive. That piece was nit-picky to the point of being stupid imo.

I have no doubt about Young's ability to throw.

His opinion about Young is unchanged, but the professional scouts will be running scared after watching this TV show?

It's seems that one's perception of an event now depends squarely upon where one falls in the VY/RB/DC "controversy".

If you're on the VY side then his appearance was

Very refreshing, very confident, and very impressive

he was the only QB to execute on the run hitting both bulls eyes when everything was on the line

VY looked smooth as silk doing this drill (scrambling drill) and the rest looked like they were huffing and puffing.

If you dare to look at the possible negatives then his appearance was

Vince did look good in the scrambling drill, but look at who he was going up against, Drew Olson (a pure pocket QB, and not a great one at that), Brodie Croyle (not overly mobile and as you said he fumbled it and basically gave up), and Charlie Whitehurst (a big QB that's also not very mobile and coming off shoulder surgery). Young looked good in that drill, but keep in mind the level of his competition for it and please don't fall into the trap of proclaiming that little made-for-TV event was "clear" evidence that Vince can throw the ball with the best of them.

His (Young's) first two throws in the long distance competition were disqualified, as they landed well outside of the target landing area, which prompted DeAngelo Williams to note that "[Young] may have won the national championship but wasn't going to win everything," much to the amusement of the crowd and the other participants. Young's third throw barely qualified, landing just inside the rightmost barrier where his other two throws sailed over it. The throw was just over 60 yards, the same as Whitehurst and Olson.

This performance did nothing to answer pre-draft questions about Young's ability to throw from the pocket, as scouts could clearly note that his strength is still throwing on the run. Though one of the most physically talented players and perhaps the one with the most upside in the draft, Young is also one of its biggest question marks.

I'm wondering that if Young is considered to be "confident" enough to appear in this competition, then why not work out fully at the combine? I know, I know, he won't be the only one that doesn't work out fully but that's not my point. It seems a bit odd to refer to him as "very confident" and "very refreshing" that he appears in one arena but not in another ... IMO, he should not have been there, nor should Bush, or Leinart, ... the only people that should have been there were guys trying to make up ground.... or to prove something.

Young had absolutely nothing to prove in the scrambling drill. No sane person will argue that he isn't an awesome athlete... It's those of us that wonder how many big games he can win in the NFL when running for 200 yards and throwing no TD passes, that have reservations.

And don't bombard me with "what has Carr done", "how many big games has Carr won", .... I've been painfully aware of that from my seat at Reliant ....

I gotta agree. VY agress to do a made for tv event that has no hope in improving his draft status, and it's call refreshing and stuff, as the man-love for VY continues. Yet when he says he is NOT going to workout fully at teh combine its written off as the smart thing to do; that he should only throw because the scout's now about his footwork and speed. So, if the scout's know al labout VY's running ability. Why go to this farce of a talent contest? Why not display these skills in the one place were it may actually help him go #1, Indy. Apparnetly VY can have it both ways, must be nice; and if I was him I'd want to play in Houston cause I doubt anybody would hold him responsible for the teamss shortcomings in teh coming years, if things continue the way they are (I'm willing to bet that if we draft VY, we;ll never see the tyoe of threads about him that we see about Carr, any takers?)

I can assure you that anyone that makes the jack that an inexperienced #1 QB commands and does not perform will be under my microscope. This is and never has been a David Carr thing, it is about a return on the Texan's largest investment.

Just goes to show that some people will harp on VY no matter what he does.

I've never seen someone so talented at any sport lambasted for ridiculous reasons.

While I am firmly off the draft-Vince bandwaggon, I'm not sure this article makes much in the way of a valid point.

I don't think Vince's performance will do much of anything to diminish his draft stock: most NFL scouts are already pretty adept to the man's strengths and weaknesses, and what we saw in this "skills challenge" is not only not new but not very consequential.

Most scouts already view Vince as a talented prospect with tremendous upside, and that is pretty much exactly the picture that this somewhat convoluted skills challenge painted any way.

Not sure he should have participated, but I don't see how participating "hurt" him at all.

Reading Hayes' archive is a good way to kill some time.

But I don't have a beef with this particular article. Hayes was a pretty far off on his assessment that Young "hadn't shown nearly the accuracy of UCLA's Drew Olson or Alabama's Brodie Croyle" (in the passing accuracy, Vince finished 2nd and his misses were much closer than the misses of his competitors), but other than that he was mostly correct.
