The anticipated hiring of Benton does, however, seem to indicate that David Diaz-Infante, who had previously been rumored as the assistant offensive line coach, will not be joining the Texans' staff this year.

Benton joined the St. Louis Rams from the Rams of Colorado State (1996-2003), where he served as offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator from 2001-03. While at CSU, Benton coached 12 first-team all-conference lineman, and two all-America players.

A four-year starter and letter-winner at Colorado State from 1986-90, Benton was an honorable mention selection to the all-Western Athletic Conference team as a junior and senior, and named to the WAC all-Academic team as a senior. In 1992, he was named to the school’s all-Century team as one of the top players in school history.

Benton began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Colorado State from 1987-90. He then moved to California University – Pennsylvania (1990-94) as offensive line coach (1990-92) and recruiting coordinator. Benton is married to Nicole, and they reside in St. Louis.

Didn't we sacked them like 5 or 6 times when we played them. I know we knocked Jamie Martin out on a concussion that's when the rookie from Harvard tore us up at the end. But last year I think the Rams had a alright line not too much better than ours.

Anytime you hire someone who has experience in role as opposed over a guy coming out of the booth to coach arguably our most challenged unit it goes down as a good thing in my book.

Very true - in fact in the 2004 season St. Louis gave up 50 sacks compared to our 48 and in 2005 gave up 46 more (still far better than us!). That was with Orlando Pace at LT. That should give the "get a good LT and everything will be fine" crew pause for thought.

Benton confirmed. So is Karmelowicz (from KC) for the DL. Yawn. But these are position coaches and we're not supposed to know their names. I guess...

St. Louis sack problems could be linked to their scheme.

When you throw the ball deep as much as they did, your bound to give up alot of sacks. Just look at Spurriers run in Washington

I hope we can get Sherman, as he has a lot of experience and has been an HC in the league. It would serve Kubiak well to have someone else to discuss game management issues. However, I am willing to trust Kubiak in his hirers. Still sorry to hear that Dan Neal turned us down, he apparently has a pretty hard time getting around these days (his knees are shot).

Perhaps signing the O-line coach from the Rams is another attempt to lure Orlando Pace here?

Pace signed a huge 7 year deal with the Rams last year. He's not going anywhere.
