Underclassmen who have declared for the upcoming draft are currently being considered by the Selection Committee. We anticipate these additions will be complete on Wednesday, February 1st.

Jeremy Bloom - Colorado - WR

Gonna be a busy month for Bloom. First the Winter Olympics, then the Combine.

Nice article by Clare Farnsworth of The Sporting News regarding former University of Colorado wide receiver Jeremy Bloom. She a does a fantastic job breaking down the things that make him a successful skier and how they "might" translate to football.

Here are just some general comments/questions for those that believe Jeremy Bloom is merely an Olympics gimmick, created by the media due to his pop culture appeal:

** Name us a prospect that has won the Superstars competition, against elite athletes from the NFL and other pro sports, twice before the age of 22?

**Name us a prospect that has been officially recorded running the 100 yard dash in 9.4 seconds?..Think about it, that’s less than a second per each 10 yards! Folks, that’s flying, without wings.

**Name us a prospect that stepped onto the college football field for the first time and returned a punt for a 75 yard touchdown against his schools hated rival the very first time he touched the ball, despite mostly concentrating on a sport other than football?

**How many athletes can snare a 94 yard touchdown reception in a Conference Championship game as a freshman with limited practice reps, then come back as a sophomore and average 16.2 yards per catch over 22 receptions in his only season were he lined up at wide receiver much?..This was accomplished, again, despite the fact that he rarely practiced or trained with the football team those two seasons.

We believe, had Bloom concentrated fully on the sport of football, he’d already be in the NFL (would‘ve been part of the 2004 draft), attempting to become an explosive punt returner/receiver in the mold of a Santana Moss of the Washington Redskins or Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers. Because of the skiing, we know he’s way behind technique-wise and that wont be real easy to overcome.

However, we know he’s a hard worker and quick learner and you can‘t teach speed. If he’s as fast as most think, we believe he could sneak into the third round of the draft. Let’s be honest, teams mostly draft based on potential and he’s got a ton of it as a specialist/slot receiver.

The NFL teams will be evaluating athlete times and performances based on what they see on this field, not comparisons to previous years. Additionally, some teams adjust Astroturf times (making them slower) to better equate to game like surfaces (grass). Since Field Turf is now the game surface for many NFL teams and is considered equal to grass in most NFL perspectives, times will be more accurate and less likely to be adjusted. In discussing the issue with many NFL team executives, a common belief is that ‘fast athletes’ run fast on all surfaces and ‘slow athletes’ come up with excuses not to run. Keep in mind that NFL personnel are experienced at evaluating player speeds on any number of surfaces and are as interested in how athletes compete on a big stage, as they are with the actual timed result.

this is under "running surface"

what a day some of these "kids" have .. 7:30am to 11:00pm
