screens and rollouts are what I never understood why the Capers led Texans didn't do to slow down the passrush.
Our screens If I remember were WR screens or we ran quick hitches.

Very interesting. I would have liked a better description of how our current TE's could possibly work in such a system. Are they just not good TEs were they hampered by a system that had to keep them close to home, and where dump off passes were usually meant for AJ and DD?
BTW, I found this article and thought it was an interesting look into the Denver way of doing stuff (sorry if this was posted before: "The grand scheme: Broncos staff, coaches and players devote incredible hours and resources into providing a winning game plan" |

Pitts and Wand. Interesting - they should have anchored our left side this past season. However, I can see them playing the two tackle positions. I still think Wand could handle the left tackle spot if given the chance. If he played right tackle, his speed in our zone blocking scheme could enable him to dominate the usually slower left ends. He and Chester, in either combination, might be the bookends we've been looking for.
The odd man out is Wade - I don't think he has the foot speed for this scheme. His injury may just exacerbate that shortcoming. I hope we get a good free agent center - I think that would be the best single addition to improve our line play.

running back screens, as a rule, are best used against man-to-man coverage .... not sure what percentage of 2005 opponents played man-to-man but with no TE and precious little pass protection, many teams defended the Texans with the dreaded cover 2 or some form of a zone ....

I wish I could wake up tomorrow and have the draft starting in 10 minutes. The following morning I wake up and we are towards the end of training camp. The third morning we are starting the season. Of course there is a lot of living I'd miss out on.

Pitts, Wand, and McKinney are the best suited lineman for the denver system. Pitts has great feet and very good quickness. Wand has good feet and above average quickness, however, he is a little long and has trouble sustaining blocks. McKinney is simply not athletic enough to play center. He does have good feet and is ideally suited for guard in the scheme. His feet and generally proper technique will make up for his lack of strength.
Wade is going to have the toughest time. He has horrible feet, the only reason he is a tackle is because his frame is ill suited for the guard position. Weigart is getting older and his speed and coordination is starting to slow. He can be adequate for a year or two while building talent, although, it would serve his career better to go to a team that runs a more traditional scheme. Pitts could be a pro bowler at guard, and may be at tackle. I will eagerly watch his progress.

I read somewhere on this board that the Bronco's offseason consists of more of the mental aspects of the game instead of the bootcamp style that some coaches run.
What I am wondering if Kubiak is going to go with that philosophy or keep with the bootcamp style being this is Texas and not Colorado and the conditions are different. I haven't been to Colorado, but I can't imagine it being anywhere close to the Texas weather and vice versa.

I really liked the article. Nice, very nice read.........
But what are the chances, that Kubiak has a "better" idea?? Let's say he's taken Zone Blocking to another level?? What if he's going to be the next Mike Martz...... though I've not really liked the idea too much..... AJ, MAthis, Reggie on the line at the same time............ Greatest show on turf......
