Thumbs down bush is over-hyped

bush is an outside runner and thats it im tired of people making him seem so good when yea he can change directions and out run people but thats usually in an open field against one or two guys.he cant run through the tackles as good a his team mate l.white.besides running outside wont be as easy against top of the line nfl defenders.by the way im not a big vy fan.

wow, a thread about George Bush! This should probably be in the No Spin Zone, though

In all seriousness, though, your point could have been made in any number of threads devoted to the subject.

Some use of the Shift Key might also be in order.

Bush will be a great NFL talent. I do agree that he's been overhyped though. It all started after the Fresno St. game. All of a sudden he became a Diety on Earth, similar to what happened to VY after the Rose Bowl.

I think BOTH are going to be outstanding NFL players. But the Texans should draft NEITHER of them. Too many holes to fill, and with the value of the #1 pick this high, too great of an opportunity to trade down and fill a lot of those holes.

I agree, there have been so many Heisman Running backs that have busted in the NFL lately i.e. Ron Dane and I'm not saying Reggie Bush will, but we all have to keep this in mind, and I'm not a VY fan either. When was the last time a running who was drafted no.1 actually made an impact on the NFL?

I lean toward the trade down camp if possible, but that is just BS. Bush was hyped all last year and was considered the leading Heisman candidate all year long. Young was pulling even with him the couple games before the Fresno game and then Bush solidified the Heisman with that game. Saying Bush was only hyped because of the Fresno game is just as wrong as saying Young is only being hyped because of the Rose Bowl.

Yes, lots of people over hype Bush, but you don't understand how amazing he would be for the Texans and in the offense Kubiak is bringing. Explosivness and vision are the two biggest things for a running back in a zone blocking scheme. Look at the players who are truly successful in this system and you will see they have these two things in droves.

Terrell Davis?... He ran a 40 in the 4.5 range but he hit full steam out of his cuts. That speed out of the break plus his vision for the cutback made him the first true standout in the scheme, NFL MVP, Superbowl MVP, and one of the few members of the 2000 yd club.

Clinton Portis?... His 40 is sub 4.4, and he has the blazing acceleration to match. 1500 yds in each of his first 2 years in Denver's scheme, and he didn't play a full 16 in either of those years. He was never an amazing tackle breaker either (he is now that he has added weight), but his first step was quick enough that people would be bringing him down with arm tackles.

Warrick Dunn?... Has had the best years of his career under Alex Gibbs in Atlanta. Dunn has quickness, and was never really good at breaking tackles. He makes lots of people miss, however, and he just had a career year. Once again, a guy with great vision, amazing quickness, acceleration, and a fantastic top speed.

Now lets look at Bush. He displays all the qualities that you need to excel in this system. He has explosive cut (and does it pretty much better than anyone), the vision, the ability to make plays once he is at the second level, the breakaway speed to make the running game truly dangerous, and excellent hands making him a dual threat.

He may not be the next coming of Gale Sayers like some say (of course he may just be that second coming too...), but in the Texans' new offense he will be the next Clinton Portis. I can garuntee that.

actually the heisman poll on ESPN had Vince winning 13 votes to 2 over Reggie before the Fresno game. After the Fresno game, Reggie 15, Vince-0.

I like Reggie, but he was behind Vince quite a bit because of what vince did against Okst and OSU. The Fresno game won him the heisman, no question.

The point was recent games for Vince had propelled him into contention and in the lead according to some folks and then Bush retook the lead. It wasn't as if Bush came out of obscurity because of the Fresno game.

Translated for easier viewing:

Bush is an outside runner. That's it! I'm tired of people making him seem so great. All he can do is change directions and out-run people, and that is usually in the open field against one or two guys. He can't run between the tackles as well as his former teammate, LenDale White. Besides, running outside won't be as easy against top of the line NFL defenders.

By the way, I'm not a big Vince Young fan.

Next time I will charge for my services.

So really you are saying that if Warrick Dunn and TD could be great backs in this system, and that it is a great system for backs with explosiona and vision , then you are basically saying that DD can becomd a 1500+ yard runner wiht Kubiak as the new coach being that he was already a capabe of around 1200 yards with no prevalent passing game. So.. why do we need Bush??

Holy God how many of these will have? RB is Great because X. RB is awful because Y. VY Is God because X. VY will fail because Y. AHHH, its driving me crazy. The fact is, both players played a style that may or may not translate to the pros. It worked in college, and they never needed to try anything else. Both are amazing athletes though, so whoever is saying that they don't have the ability to run between the tackles or play from behind center needs to rethink their stance. all it takes is time to learn a new scheme
