GREAT. Now this is going to get really complicated
cover: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/index "Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler wasn't perfect at Monday's Senior Bowl practice, but he impressed onlookers with his strong arm and mobility. In fact, two NFL scouts said they would take Cutler ahead of Southern Cal's Matt Leinart and Texas' Vince Young." article: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft...ory?id=2303828 "Of the three quarterbacks on this roster (Clemson's Charlie Whitehurst, Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler and Penn State's Michael Robinson), Cutler has the strongest arm and Whitehurst has the quickest delivery. Cutler was a bit erratic, but he showed the ability to fit the ball into tight spots and has impressive mobility. Whitehurst is not nearly as mobile and had trouble with his consistency on the deep ball, but he does have very good touch and timing as a passer. It is only one week, but the experience of working with quarterback guru Norm Chow (Titans' offensive coordinator) certainly can't hurt either of these future NFL quarterbacks. Two separate NFL scouts said they would draft Cutler ahead of USC's Matt Leinart and Texas' Vince Young. Robinson is clearly the most mobile of the three, but his overall passing skills are nowhere near on par with the other two North quarterbacks in this game. Robinson did do some prepractice work catching balls as a return specialist, but he did not get any reps at running back or wide receiver. Game officials obviously want Robinson to spend most of his time at quarterback for repetition purposes in practice, but he would be much better served spending the rest of the week trying to showcase his talents as an offensive skill player in front of NFL scouts." BTW: I am not really a Carr fan but given the contract issues and money issues, I don't think this is the year to take a QB. Although, I would like to see VY suceed as a Texan. I wonder if Norm Chow is falling in love with Cutler? They may start to see some fan pressure build toward drafting Cutler as he is a local boy for them. If we go Reggie Bush, Saints go Leinart, Titans go Cutler, where does VY go? (I know it is unlikely but it is the offseason so thought I would post it.) |

There is still gobs of UT people still sore from last year when the team passed on Derrick Johnson, who ended up having a good rookie year with the Chiefs but was nowhere near the top rookie LBs in the NFL in 2005. |

Hey, isn't Rod Wright from Houston (via Hastings HS)??? Why no love for him? The Texans could use more DL!!

instead of the Texans. But let me ask you Kaiser, is there any push by people in Austin for the Arlington Cowboys to move up and try to take VY, afterall they are the team with the long-in-the-tooth QB, not the Texans. I realize that Young is from Houston and not North Texas and accordingly Young fans would expect to have more leverage with the Houston franchise, but I also know there is far more Cowboy fans in Austin than Texan fans and they prfobably don't care where Young plays, as long as its in Texas. |

I have been a Cutler advocate for a while. He has been jumping up the boards. He wasn't even forecast to be a first day pick prior to his senior year. I'd like to see him taken by the Dolphins, but I don't think he will last that long.

LOL! Check out this article: Dallas Observer Link: "Tex-cess Everything's bigger in our state, especially the fan fakery" An excerpt: Quote:
If Jerry Jones could find a way to make the VY thing work, he'd do it in a heartbeat. |

Man, that quote from Troy Aikman is so on point. "This is not a football town. Its a winner's town." So much said in 2 sentences. In any event, that article did surprise me. I had no idea that the Metroplex had jumped so hardcore onto the UT bandwagon. When I lived in the area (Weatherford, Ft. Worth, Arlington), most of the people I met were more Aggie Slanted over UT or supported the local teams like TCU/SMU. I think an easy explanation would be that VY is a good Texas Story. There is a lot that goes unsaid in this simplistic view of the world as well.... No other Texas College Football Team has ever had THE President of the United States declare them the National Champions. In fact, I think maybe only SMU, other than UT has won a National Championship at all? Why is it so hard for the people drinking h8oraide to understand a pride in Texas Football? Little brother syndrome, in my humble opinion. A&M, the Oilers and now SOME of the Texan's fans seem to have issues with being the over looked little brother to the flagship teams of the state. Envy from living in the shadows of the Juggernauts who get all the attention leads to some spite and anger, I suppose. Last edited by Glacier; 01-25-2006 at 11:44 AM. |

I waited in line for about an hour on the Thursday to pick up some UT nat champs shirts for my dad (he's in Australia). The guys at Academy said the line that formed around 6am nearly got violent. I've also noticed an increase in Longhorn logo car stickers lately. Nothing sells in Dallas like a winner, Troy should know. |

"What a great story. Vince Young, raised on the tough streets of Oak Cliff, survives to star at Carter High School and eventually matures into the leader of the nation's No. 1 college football team. Wow! And it all happened here in our own backyard. "
************************ Good find Texans Chick ! Actually, the folks up in North Texas are well known hypocrites and even plagiarists from way back. I remember when I moved to Houston in the early 80s and the "Dallas" TV show was all the rage. This is of course when the Oil Industry and all its wealth and power were in vogue, popular, even chic before PC and the environs came into power and everything associated with Oil & Gas became a dirty word, poly incorrect. Anyway, even back then it was so odd for any place but Houston to even claim it was the energy center. The Dallas Morning News article about Young sorta reminded me about all of that. |

Last I checked, Dallas was able to play with all the teams in the playoffs that they faced. They had Seatle beat, they played with Denver. They beat Carolina? Distant past??? A few pieces away....just a few pieces away.... As for UT, they are going to be better than people want to give them credit for. Will they win another one? Hard to say with out knowing what kind of play they will get at the QB position. They are returning a lot of kids with a taste for being winners though. |
