Multiple trade downs if it meant stockpiling picks for the next 3 years?
What if the Jets were to give the Texans the #4 overall, their 2nd round pick this year, their 1st round pick in 2007, and their 3rd round pick in 2007 to grab Bush? That's a lot to turn down and they'd still be in great position at the 4th pick. Then let's say the Saints take Leinart and the Titans go with Ferguson instead of Young. There are quite a few teams wanting a QB. They could possibly get something like the #16 overall, a 3rd round pick this year, a 2nd round pick in 2007, and then a 1st and maybe a 3rd in 2008 to drop down again. That would give the Texans 7 picks in the first 97 this season. 7 picks in the first 4 rounds next season. 6 picks in the first 4 rounds in 2008. If drafted well, that's some serious talent and depth that unfortunately after 4 years still isn't fully there. I'd love to see the talents and abilities of Bush or Young. They are both incredible players, but they are just 1, ok maybe the equivalent of 2 players. You can remake this team incredibly with multiple draft picks. |

#1: IF VY was around at #4, it would be silly to pass up on him
#2: There comes a point when a team can simply have too many picks. Rookies need time to develop (almost always) and if you are constantly bringing in lots of new guys each year, your team will lack that cohesive chemistry from playing together. So basically, picking up a few extra 1st rounders=good, but going crazy and stockpiling (a la Madden) isn't effective in the NFL

Sure thats some serious talent IF (remember who the Texans GM is)..... IF they draft well but you also have to take into consideration the salary cap in the future . They may get a handful of great players in those 20+ picks over 3 years picking in the top 1/3rd of the draft but could they afford to keep them .... probably not . They would be in cap hell in the 4th or 5th season and be right back on the bottom .

Trade with Jets for their first round this year second round this year first next year and J Abraham. If we have to throw in a late round pick or somthing. Next trade with the cardinals for their first round pick this year and next year and Adrian wilson. Give them our first round pick from the jets and a third round pick. Now we have Round1 pick 10 Would be a good spot to pick Kiwanuka, Huff, Vernon Davis Round 2 pick 1 and 4 I would look for a LB (Parham or Hodges) and oline Round 3 pick 1 Look for Oline And we would still have three first round picks next year. |

For me, it would depend on which teams were looking to trade. If a particular team has a chance of having a really bad record over the next few years, then I'd have to consider it.
The Jets had a slew of injuries this past year so it'd be pretty risky because they might bounce back and be in the playoffs which would push their traded pick down. However, if it's the Raiders or Lions...
