I'll take Mr. McNair at his word that the organization hasn't made a decision yet.

Decent article and I believe McNair hasn't decided what to do with the pick. I do think it was a little biased at the end though.

I actually do believe that he and the organization have made up their mind. They will "evaluate" and then come to the decision that Reggie Bush is their guy. They will talk about how they love Vince, but that they have done extensive evaluations and research and have come to the conclusion that Reggie Bush will help the team the most because of his explosiveness and versatility.

This article was a weak attempt to still lobby for VY. The whole article came down to the last sentence, which was pathetic. His whole argument (mentioned in another thread) is that Kubiak will not be able to pass up VY when he says how much he loves Houston! If Kubiak will make a decision on something silly like that (he won't), I would not want him as HC. He will make a football decision. McClain's brain has shut down permanently!

The only thing that the Texans have stated publicly is that they are planning to give Carr the bonus extension. All this stuff about McNair guaranteeing to Carroll that Bush would go #1 is asinine. What possible benefit do the Texans gain by doing this? McNair is a better businessman than that, not to mention a better person (he is not going to cut his new coach out of the decision). Kubiak may have shared some opinions in the interview process, but he hasn't had time to thoroughly evaluate the draft yet. His team is on the brink of a Super Bowl! At this point he knows about as much about Young, Bush and the others as what he's seen on ESPN and what he may have picked up in casual conversations with those in the league. If nothing else is clear....John McClain's choice certainly is. lol
He tried to be unbias but gave way there with the Elway comparison and the last paragraph.

Am I reading the thread title correctly that our John McClain actually wrote a great article? If this is the case, it is definitely newsworthy and calls for a celebration. I concur that it is definitely one of his better articles, although I'm not sure what scouts (none that I have heard from) say that Vince is the best leader to come out of college since Elway. At least this article is not pure Vince propganda like some of McClain's other recent stuff.

April 29 is a long way away.
That's better for Vince. I can't wait. He will be a Texan. |

McClain is giving the Vince fans a false sense of hope. When the Texans extend Carr's contract that will be the sign that they are not taking Vince Young. I don't care what McClain or Justice says. They aren't going to extend Carr's contract for 3 years and then draft a QB with the #1 overall pick.

Welcome him to the team. I won't be particularly happy because I feel it would be a wasted pick, but I'm not going to start rooting for the Titans because Reggie Bush is drafted by them.

The one thing to remember with "the General" is that he always sides with the best "story." In a sense he is always looking to make his job easier. Pay attention to him in interviews, "wow, wouldn't it be a great story if..." As he sees it now, Vince Young, would be a better story than Reggie Bush, who would be a better story than trading down. He does not look the eyes of a football analyst, but of a some-what lazy journalist.

McClain appears to be applying to become VY's agent. I think VY should pay him for all the down home PR he's getting from McClain - and those at Sports Radio 610 deserve a little payback, too. What a sales job they're trying to pull off!

McLain's articles are getting old. I will be happy with Bush or VY and will unfortunately be fearful of Tenn. regardless of what happens with this draft...Tenn is in a great spot. The only difference with this article over any others he's written is its not 100% in VY's corner. Bush does get about 5% on this go around.
Him admitting we won't trade Carr and yet bring in VY makes him look pretty stupid, but to his credit he has been making that call since the very beginning. I still think saying we are not trading Carr is a little premature as well. We will know more by mid-Feb... |
