I am new to these message boards and am sure someone has the quick answer, but how did Mr. Casserly survive with his tremendously poor draft record. It seems like when a player does not pan out he is always quick to point out that "he was a coache's pick". He only takes credit for the one's that work. I think his biggest problem is always trying to outsmart everyone and hit the homerun rather than take the obvious pick. He would much rather take some kid with lots of potential from South Idaho State than the obvious pick who has proved themselves in the SEC, Big 10 or any other major conference. Trading down last did get us the Saints #2 this year think.
I cringe at how this guy will screw up this years draft!!!! |

Maybe he's being kept around so Reeves can lean from him, the nuts and bolts of the job not how and who to draft and trade.
Or maybe to be a scapegoat when we only 6 or less next season.

One reason why McNair hired Dan Reeves...is to keep a close eye on Casserly. Now if that isn't a vote of confidence....lol.
How about letting Reeves make all early round selections and Charlie can look for that diamond in the rough in the 6th round.

He won't screw up this draft if he goes with the safest pick, Bush.
We will ask for his head in 2 years, guaranteeed, if we get VY as it becomes obvious he will need more seasoning.

The Casserly question has been posed with no real answers forthcoming. Definitely none of us here have an idea, because he'd be gone if it was up to popular opinion.
My guess would be that maybe Casserly didn't have as much say in personel decisions as the coaches did. Perhaps he was told who to get and that's his job, plus managing the salary cap. Who knows? Mr. McNair, and he's not letting us see behind that curtain. And welcome to the Texans funny pages, SportsJunkie.

Most smart GM's don't let you know what they are going to do, but Charlie has this habit of "never shutting up!" I have heard that he is Chris Mortenson's insider at the Texans also.
When is the last time we made a "surprise move" that the newspaper didn't talk about for a week. Dan Reeves! Why? Charlie didn't know about that one.

I really don't understand why he was retained. He is a "lame duck" GM. He will make decisions solely based upon saving his job this year. He has had some of his power removed and whenever I hear him talk now, I feel like I am listening to a dead man. He is in reactionary mode, and that is never a good thing for a coach or GM. They should fire him now and put in Reeve's man, Ron Hill. I'm not a big Hill fan, but at least he wouldn't be a shell of a GM.
Obviously Dan Reeves thought this team had some talent and it was miscoached. If that was the case, and McNair decided to retain CC, why not give him a one year extension? Going into the biggest draft since 2002 with a scared guy making decisions is just insane.

I tried writing this earlier but got locked out of here. Everyone would bond together if they just realized it came back to one guy. The Carr lovers claim that the guy hasn't had a chance because he doesn't have a line and has no talent or coaching around him to make him better. They think we haven't given him anything to work with for 4 years....Casserly. The VY supporters think he would add to our winning attitude and give us a playmaker that the offense is missing, someone that isn't Carr...Casserly. The Bush guys think we need him as the playmaker because the other 3 RBs we drafted aren't franchise backs and that we have wasted enough picks on second tier guys when we could have gotten a Portis and others in other drafts..Casserly. The trade down for O-line faction is tired of having no line and thinks that we are dumb to pass up a good tackle, someone that we never got in FA or in the draft before even though we knew it was a huge problem and Carr was getting knocked around..Casserly. So maybe we should just band together and realize the source of almost ALL of the tension comes from one man's building of 4 years...Casserly.

Capers on the other hand gave Casserly a list and look what he did. He gave them the players they wanted and sometimes at a premimum. But that was who the coaching staff wanted. Look where that staff is now. Enough said on this matter. |

Actually I have it on good authority that Cass speaks the truth when he says "coaches' decision." Supposedly he and his scouts give the coaches all of the information they have and then the coaches make the decision -- in some cases, including some of the very obviously wrong ones we have seen in years past -- including trading up to grab Babin half a round ahead of where anyone else in the league had him projected, Travis Johnson instead of Derrick, and so on.
Not sure where exactly the truth lies, and I used to be on the fire Casserly bandwagon as much as anyone else on this board, but word I'm hearing is that he actually is a credible GM who has just taken the fall for bad decisions made on the part of Capers and Co. For whatever it's worth.

Has anybody else heard that Casserly will be taking a position with the NFL and leaving the Texans???? I don't have a source to quote just something I heard.
