With all of the talk about Vince Young's throwing motion, I would like to remind people that NFL analysts were saying that David Carr also had an awkward throwing motion (see link -- look under "Negatives")
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfldraft/t...player?id=4184 David Carr Negatives: Semi-sidearm, unusual, three-quarter throwing motion. Has a very low release point, about shoulder level. Will get balls batted down, which could be huge problem, since so many teams use so many three- and five-step drops. Is basically a line-drive passer and might be better off if he put more air under some of his throws. Is not quite as mobile as you would like and is not a super athlete and improviser. Average scambler and is no Donovan McNabb as a runner. Can be inconsistent throwing the ball. Will force some and make some bad reads. Was brought along beautifully by the Fresno State staff and has not faced a lot of adversity, so you cannot be sure how well he can handle it. Did bounce back from the Ohio State disaster in 2000. In Fresno State's two regular-season losses in '01, he was in a position to lead John Elway-type comebacks but did not do it. By the way, I also have a tape of our first draft, when the Texans picked David Carr. During the pre-draft analysis, they were constantly talking about David Carr's throwing motion... Go figure? |

I am not big on throwing motion as a standalone ding against a QB. It matters what the QB does once he is confronted with a bigger, faster and smarter defense. Does he have the ability to adapt or overcome adversity. This is where DC failed. I have always said DC has the tangible assets, it is the intangible assets, on the field, that he sorely lacks.

Domanick Davis Negatives: He has not been an effective inside runner and is not much of a blocker. Does not see the cutback lanes quickly and can be timid between the tackles. Lacks moves in the open field. Can drop passes that aren't perfect. Hasn't been tested over time. Strong at the point of attack. Has tight hips. Summary: Davis has a future as a change-of-pace, third-down back and returner. So should we only allow Davis to be our 3rd down back because his scouting report says so?

My point was that some people are questioning Vince Young's throwing motion (they are using it as a 'reason' that he may not be a good NFL QB),
Well, people were questioning David Carr's throwing motion also. There was a lot of concern that a lot of his passes would be 'batted down' because he throws 'sidearm.' Not drafting a player like VY because of his "throwning motion" would be ridiculous. He's going to end up being a great NFL QB, whether we draft him or not. But, I'll be happy with getting Bush or Young! |

I've been saying that Carr has regressed. Last season, he had way better trowing motions, but it seems he will panic sometimes and throw the ball side-armed long. Those that say akward throwing motions don't count, see Aaron Rodgers. One of the only knocks on him is that he held the ball above his shoulder. He fell from 1st overall to 24th overall.

throwing motion = BS imo..........there are plenty of QB's who have awkward throwing motions (my man Brett Favre comes to mind), I don't think it will effect Vince that much especially since he's 6'5.
