In the games I watched this year, this guy wasn't impressive at all. It was like he wasn't even trying half of the time. I was excited at the beginning of the year, but after his level of play I am wondering all types of things. Is it his attitude?

Who knows. Casserly has said that when we got him, we thought we were getting a cover corner and knew he wasn't much of a tackler. That our staff believed that we could coach him through his deficiencies. He looked pretty bad at times during the season. He was certainly going to be picked on as opposed to throwing to Dunta's side of the field. Before he got hurt, there were noises that he was starting to understand our system better and was being able to use his athleticism instead of overthinking the plays. Buchanon went out at the time we started getting to the easier part of our schedule. AND, our owner basically called Pbuc a mistake in the paper. It will be interesting to see what is done with him because IIRC, he is a relatively cheap player currently with some potential, but he has been publically dogged by the owner as an error. So the question is: Is he someone who can be coached up through his problems, or just can never be a corner in the league? Last years experiment was certainly ungood, but then again, it is hard to play corner when your pass rush at the beginning of the season was non-existent and your line can't stop the run. I am guessing one way or another he won't have a radio show on 790 next year. |

Ya know, Bailey played like crap for the Broncs at first but got it turned around. I was waiting for that to happen for PP-Suck but no such luck.

Buchanan was a bust, no doubt about it. Cut our losses and move on.

He's undergoing some estrogen treatments this offseason. Let's see how they turn out before condemning this guy.
LOL. |

haha buchanon=bailey? Phillip Buchanon will always be remembered by me as having that too little head in the oversized helmet looking halfway out the earhole and reminding me of Barney Phife or Mike Dukakis, I can't decide which. I hope and pray Dukakis, err Buchanon was one of Caper's bright ideas. What an absolute bust. |

He will cost us 800k next year against the cap. You bring him in with a new staff and allow him to compete for a position. With the prospect of Jerry Gray coming in as DC, who was a former All-Pro CB, it makes fiscal and player personnel sense.
To me, and yes it maybe just me, this is more of a no brainer given all of the Carr talk about a new coach coming in, DC's cap hit and production to date.

I'd like the new coach to set an example for all the players; you play like you don't want to be here, and you won't be here. Cut Buchanon as a statement, and because he is a worthless lazy bum.

My understanding on the P-Buc acquisition is that Al Davis basically strong-armed Casserley into taking the deal while he was still trying to make a decision as to whether to try to make a deal for him. If I remember right, Al Davis kept hassling Charley telling him that other teams were on the phone. Then after Charley takes the deal, old Bay Area newspaper articles turned up dogging P-Buc... basically saying all the same things about him that we see on this board (doesn't tackle, etc.)
I think it was a McClain article that I got this story from... Not sure, it's been a couple of months now since I read it.

I love listening to all of you complain about buchanon. Before he came everyone was soo happy about him coming. Now you complain? Its like taking VY out of college drafting him and telling him to stay in the pocket and not scramble. The system is different and it takes more then 1 year to learn it. Patience

I knew after watching one game that he was a bust. That being said he may be better in nickle and dime packages than Faggins. Am I the only one that thinks that CB is one of our FIRST needs in the draft.

wtf are you talking about? You think a team like the raiders with a horrible defense would trade their starting corner if he was even halfway decent? everyone that watched the raiders even once last year couldve told Pburnt was a bust and a horrible player. if anyone was "excited" about him, they mustve been in a fantasy world

Buchanon = yet another good reason to FIRE Casserly.

I suspect that PBuc is a lost cause, but let's see if a new set of coaches can work anything. With the set of villiage idjits that we had for coaches, who knows. He will never be a zone guy IMO, but he IS supposed to have some cover skills. The dude went in the 1st, so there should be SOME skills.

he went in the 1st because of his speed, not his skills. He has 1st round speed and 7th round brains.
