Default why is Carr's option not signed already

Since everyone is saying that it is going to be a 'done deal', no doubt about it. Why haven't the Texans signed Carr's contract option already? Are there some kind of conditions that have yet to be met? Is there a deadline date? Is there some kind of date in the future that the Texans have to wait on before they can initiate the option in Carr's contract? I mean we heard earlier in the year how this option would be signed BEFORE the end of the season, yet here it is, playoff time, season over for the Texans and still no signature.

what is it that the Texans are waiting on? Or better question yet, why is this option that EVERYONE in the organization is saying is going to be picked up, not PICKED UP YET?

Whats the hold up on such a 'done deal' type of option?

Could it be that Carr has given the Texans second thoughts with his playing? Or could the Texans be thinking of testing Carr in the FA market to see what his value to other teams are? Are they waiting for the HC hiring to become official and get the new HC opinion on Carr? What is the holdup?

I think that it might be to give the incoming HC an illusion of having participated in the decision to keep Carr.

while I would love to think that the new HC actually has some kind of say in the Carr decision, when the GM, the guy the HC works for, and the Owner, the guy EVERYONE works for, says Carr is staying, do you think a brand new, just interviewed HC, would be foolish enough to even think about suggesting that Carr NOT be re-signed? I don't think so.

a definite possibility, but not a very good probability, IMHO.

Um, also may have something to do with the world (sorry if this sounds morbid, just trying to make a point and I dont hope this happens):
David Carr gets into a wreck tomorrow on his way to the gym and is in pretty bad shape, he'll live though and be able to walk in a few months. Do you pick up his option then???

They have to wait incase something of this nature occurs.

And what Herv said...the coach has to at least look like he had a say in Carr...

would you elaborate on this? why after Feb 2? Is it going to happen after our FA's are cut, for salary cap reasons? I really am looking for some kind of legit answer to this question. I could well understand it if signing him after Feb 2 moves his option money into next years salary cap, or allows us to spread it out over multiple years. I am not a cap/FA guru, so would appreciate all the help I can get on this question.

I guess Mr. McNair gotta case of alligator arms when he was asked to sign off. I believe March 3rd is when the next signing period opens due to 2006 contracts beginning.

You actually make a good point. Signing bonuses are guaranteed, so he wants to make sure that nothing bad happens before he has to fork over the cash.

And that amount of cash does have some value for Intrest. Not a lot to Bob, but still some $$.

Exactly. Why give him the $8 million a few months ago when he could invest that same $8 million and by the time the deadline comes by he will have a nice little profit in his pocket.
