Who's our owner again??

I’ve had about all I can take regarding a debate over 2 players that have not even declared yet…things are getting a little repetitive. Maybe instead of throwing around facts regarding these 2 we should remind ourselves who the owner of the Texans is. Doesn’t he have any input here? If you say no then you will need to convince me that Jerry Jones, Al Davis, and Daniel Snyder have no say in 1st round picks either. Reeves is still snooping around for a reason, correct?

There is no prouder Houstonian and Texan that I can think of who has ever owned a Houston sports franchise than Bob McNair. Heck, he named a football team after the fans for heaven’s sake…even let the fans pick the name!! Try getting The Miami Floridians through the league office. I don’t know about you, but my impression of Bob McNair has always been an individual who puts his community 1st. I think I’ve only heard him mention “what’s best for the community” a million times or so. That’s why football is back in Houston, that’s why we have already had a Super Bowl played here, that’s why he is trying to get the Super Bowl back here, and that’s why he even has the crazy notion of bringing an Olympics here.

We native Houstonians pride ourselves on homegrown product. Nolan Ryan, Earl Cambell, Roger Clements, Clyde Drexler, etc, mean a lot more to some than they may mean to others simply for what they gave back to the community…sorry, it’s a Texas pride thing that only Texans seem to understand. When the McNair “Pros vs. Cons” sheet of paper is pulled out of his back pocket I’m betting the #1 thing under “Pros” for VY’s sheet is not legs, arm strength, heart, will, leadership, or any other intangible he possesses. The #1 thing will probably be “impact on the community”...(see link)

Seems to me if the owner has the trump card and VY declares then he will be in Texan gear. Maybe I’m way off here, but the owner sure seems to get lost in all this debate and VY is not just athletically special...he may be a once in a lifetime guy.

McNair, IMO, is going to end up with final say on the #1 pick. He may be as involved with this decision as he is with the head coach search.

I'm sure VY is appealing, but McNair may still be too much in love with David Carr. Especially when Dan Reeves told him that it's not the players' fault that the Texans were so awful.

Reggie Bush might be a once in a lifetime guy also. I'm sure you were all about drafting Bush three weeks and just now jumped on the VY bandwagon.

I for one .... have been on the fence over picking Bush w/ the #1 . First of all he plays in the PAC 10 .... Not exactly the powerhouse division it once was .... Outside of Notre Dame they didnt play a difficult schedule . Bush had a decent game vs UT but nothing special and quite possibly cost his team the game with a boneheaded attempted lateral .
He probably would be a better WR then RB .... he plays great in space but doesnt HIT PEOPLE and drive them back nor run especially well between the tackles .... Im still not sold on him as the first pick ..... Enough Bush talk .

Now on to Vince Young .... It would have been impossible to speak of VY as the #1 selection in the next NFL Draft for one reason and one reason only .... Until the final gun sounded at the Rose Bowl he gave no inclination that he would fore-go his senior season at UT , Otherwise .... many of these bandwagon jumpers would (some have said this all season) have said they wanted Vince #1 long ago ...

Neither player plays at a position of particular NEED for the Texans ....

I'm glad I'm not the only one this is lost on. I've been wondering about that for weeks with the obvious Reggie Bush pick. I actually rooted for the Texans to *gasp!* win against the 49ers, mainly because I always root to win, and secondly, so we wouldn't be forced to take a RB that we might not really need.

What gets me is that many folks act like Young or Bush would instantly turn this team around towards a winning season. But we suck. 2-14 is a testament to that fact. We're the Worst.Team.In.Football. We need many positions addressed, not just the skill positions offered by the top two prospects.

I'll admit there is something luring about picking Young, and even Bush.

But o-line, TE, #2 WR, d-line, CB, safeties, just off the top of my head, need IMMEDIATE attention to even make us competitive. Imagine the potential worth of our no. 1 pick this year. Boggles the mind, if you let it.

That is exactly right. He's been backpedaling about his "staying" comments for a few weeks, but we've all known that Reggie Bush was coming out early for months. I speculated, but never believed that Vince was coming out until late Wednesday night.

I agree I think we are gonna trade out... and restock some of the picks we lost last year with Buchanon, Well we won't know that for certain till April 22, or april 29th.. I Mean heck we still have the combine where someone could make a huge impact..

About McNair choosing the Texans for a name. Yes, citizens voted for the name, and the NFL had to approve it. However, some people miss that originally the Texans name belonged to our beloved friends up north. I'm actually too young to remember them being called the Dallas Texans, but it wouldn't surprise me. Therefore, it wasn't that difficult to get the NFL to allow the name. This really doesn't have much to do with the thread, but it's an interesting bit of trivia, and the first post stated something about the name of the franchise.

Or he could be the next Warrick Dunn...When did i debate whether Bush is good or not? So if you are an ex-Horn whose followed VY before the game 2 days ago you are now suddenly a bandwagoner? You do realize he was UT bound next season before last Wed's game right?

Early on I thought a Bush deal could happen that would be like the Hershel Walker deal was to the Cowboys. If VY had no leadership skills I would still feel this way. This team needs a leader badly and I can't think of one NFL team that won rings without one...

Whatever McNair decides, I'm still a Texans fan. I hope Vince stays at UT, Reggie Bush is the choice and that the right pieces to the offensive line and defense are picked in the draft.

That is true and another part of that trivia is...Dallas had two teams, the Texans and the Cowboys. The Texans played the Houston Oilers in the championship game in 1962. Houston lost in OT and the following year, the owner of the Dallas Texans moved the team to KS-City to start the Chiefs football franchise. Mr McNair, out of respect to the Chiefs owner, called and cleared the use of the name "Texans" with him just to be gracious. Pretty neat piece of trivia, if you ask me.

Hopefully at some point and time we will rename the team, the Texans is not a very good name. I wouldn't mind something that had to do with a bull or Minotaur like Toro looks like.

Come on Coach, Texans is a awesome name. Who, but a city like Houston, would have enough ego to name themselves after the greatest state in the country. Besides, Houston Harris Counties, don't have quite this same effect.
