Default Not to defend Bush, but was this most people's first college game?

I mean seriously, is this the first game most of you people have watched? I would NOT be surprised if it was. What is with the Bush hating? It was PAINFULLY obvious that the Horns were focusing all of their attention on Bush. That is why they went with such speed at defending him, and that is why the middle was so open for White. And despite this, Bush managed 13 carries for 82 yards (6.3 ypc), 1 rush td, and 6 catches for 95 yards. That is almost 200 yards! What the hell is everyone freaking out about? Last time I checked, those are VERY respectable numbers.

This happens all the time in the NFL. Defenses key off on 1 player (this is why AJ has such stunted numbers some time, as does LT) and the rest of the team is given a much easier time. Its called the Moss factor in Oakland (which is why Joey Porter ahd a good year). So before all you people think that Bush is the next Kijana Carter, please remember that the Texans listened to the hype and knew he was a key to beating USC, and despite this, he still managed over 200 all purpose yards (which is what he was averaging). This was a solid game by a solid player, and I can tell NONE of you Bush bashers have watched many of his regular season games

USC keyed on Young too...but nearly 500 yards later...it never really mattered.

Yes,but the difference is that no one would say that USC has a top defense. At most, they are an average defense with a stellar offense. UT has a stellar defense with an above average defense, so its like comparing apples and oranges

Texas has an excellent defense. USC has a terrible defense. I don't want to take anything away from Young's performance, however. It was GREAT!

Before this game I didn't like Reggie Bush, and I knew against a fast defense he would not do much. He never runs north and south. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see him getting away with that in the NFL.

Vince may not be able to pull off what he did tonight on a regular basis, but he showed himself to be a much better passer then I thought he was. I just hope he is able to work on his passing at the next level.

I'm a huge college football fan. So no, this wasn't my first game. But all that you just typed replace Bush, USC, and Bush stats with Young, Texas, and Young stats. Now what?

I wouldn't call USC's defense "terrible" with a 34 game winning streak and was leading the nation in turnovers.

I will agree that Bush's outside running may run into trouble against faster NFL linebackers. Young's half side-armed flick pass will also end up costing him against smarter NFL cornerbacks

Why did you put terrible in quotes? If you read my post, you would see that I said USC was at best an "average" defense. They ranked about middle in the nation in many defensive statistics, which as I said, is average. I never said terrible

You are correct. I shouldn't have used the term terrible. USC's defense is not at the same level as Texas' defense, but not terrible. I just think it is a good point to note the difference between Reggie facing Texas' defense versus Vince facing USC's defense.

Keep in mind Pete Caroll is a defensive guru. He had a month to plan for VY. Look at what he did to UCLA with 2 weeks...

People probably said the same thing about Favre, but here we are years later and he still throws it every which way. I've never been a big fan of changing a player's throwing motion. If the player is comfortable and effective with that motion then there's no need to change it.

As far as the Bush bashing goes sure much of it is unwarranted, but so was much of the Bush worship too. He isn't a savior who can single-handedly right the Texans' ship, but, also, he isn't likely to be a flop either. He's simply a very talented RB who's success on the next level will depend a great deal on the talent surrounding him and his offensive coaches utilizing his particular skils most effectively. On the other end of the spectrum Vince Young is a very talented QB who's success on the next level will depend on the talent surrounding him and the system he plays in utilizing his strengths.

This game was a great game, and in a head-to-head battle Vince Young carried his team to victory while Bush, although he had a good game, wasn't able to do enough to get a win against a very talented and determined Texas team. Not much more to read into it than that.

Yeah well Joe Montana had a big hook in his throwing motion. Its amazing how those things don't matter when you put a few rings on

so why don't we take Reggie Bush's stats away from his Heisman game (i.e. Fresno State) ...they didn't have good D either

I am not Bashing but any of us can play the ifs, ands, or buts game with both players

Vince outshined him and when cool heads prevail they'll see Reggie is still an incredible playmaker. If USC had been able to slow down Vince just a little then Reggie's TD run would be all the hype. If he has a crease he can break it but often against a good D there simply isn't one. Texas won and that alone hurts his hype along with VY's great game. His #'s were still very respectable considering he didn't play that much and Texas focused on shutting him down. Look how that affected everybody else's#'s(lendale, leinhart,wr's) and you start to understand his impact even when he doesn't get as many touches. His stock may have dropped a little but not much. That said I still like the trade down theory but I may have to reevaluate my bargaining price.

Did anyone see how close Reggie was from winning the game on the second to last play? If they had a timeout he could have cut back to the inside, but Carroll foolishly called timeout for some reason and Reggie was forced to run out of bounds to keep some time on the clock.
