Default Casserly stupid! Why say were not drafting Leinert?

Why would he say that "we're not drafting Leinert" in the Bob Allen post game interview. What if we're intending on trading down or at least going to entertain offers. We've just cut what teams will offer us in 1/2.

Then there's the possibility of Bush getting hurt like McGahee did in his Championship game against the Buckeyes. Then what do we got?

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. :brickwall

The draft is all about smokescreens and deception and trying to get the most out the team you would like to trade with if trading is what is intended.

This absolutely pisses me off.

Casserly, if you read this, go back to draft school and re-study the chapter on "The art of keeping your mouth shut". I thought you were smarter than that.

Probably because it is known without saying, especially if Carr stays...

Then it should go without saying then.

Because the Texan's aren't. And everyone and their brother knows they aren't going to draft him.

I think it's fine to let our intentions to be known. Either we're going to have this deal inked ahead of time, a la David Carr, or other teams are going to be on notice that Reggie Bush is not going to fall down the draft board. If a team wants him, they will need to have their huge offers ready.

Although it would be interesting to bring in another QB in a later round (hidden gem) to be the future #2, possibly groomed #1 if Ragone doesn't prove his worth - just a thought... and yeah, I know we have other needs.

True, Casserly needs to keep quiet, even if it is the obvious answer... maybe he's just giddy about keeping his job for at least another year.

Exactly, he's basically telling the teams that want Leinhart if you want him come get him. There could be a huge huge race up the board for the teams wanting Bush or Leinhart, and we could easily get two drafts for one by trading down.

A good smokescreen has the possibility of happening. Assuming that the Texans give Carr an extension then everyone will know that any Leinert talk is junk. If they have intentions of trading down, using Bush as the false token is more than enough.

The snake oil sales bit is the one thing that I trust Casserly to do pretty well. Heck, he just sold an otherwise pretty astute businessman that he deserves to keep a job.

Especially since Carr's option hasn't been announced. You can still get teams wanting that spot out of fear of losing their targeted player to someone else.

They have obviously made the decision to pick up Carr's option, which will
happen months beffore the Draft. So what's the point of BSing about it ?

Honestly, Casserly looked extremely relieved in that interview. He knew that he escaped the axe and now has the first pick in each round of the draft.

Exactly. If you try to tease something you obviously aren't going to do, you lose credibility, which may make it tougher to negotiate with other teams.

It doesn't matter. It isn't the fact thay we might take him , etc, it is the fact that we want as many teams as possible talking to us. You can always take a QB and then trade him like what was done with Eli. If that was the case then other teams wanting Leinart would want that spot.

Go take a nerve pill or something! what TICKS me off is people who call other people STUPID, when they don't know what the hell they are talking about in the first place. Leave the draft up to the professionals! That's what they get paid for!!

And when we pick up Carr's option before the draft, under no circumstances will anyone believe that we are picking Matt Leinhart. There's nothing to be gained for the Texans by pretending to keep the Leinhart option open.

Well apparently scouts are having some doubts about Leinart so I don't know if there are going to be tons of teams racing to draft him. The Saints will draft him because he will fall to them, but I don't think teams are going to give up a lot to get him.

I don't agree. It doesn't matter as long as we have that pick. Lets say the Jets wanted to deal and the draft was laying out where D'Brick or someone the Texans wanted would fall in their lap. They want Leinart before the Saints can grab him. We can take Leinart for them and then get their pick, etc. That is what happens. You just don't say we won't take him. You just don't talk at all. IMHO

If some team wants to draft above the Saints because they think they Saints want Leinhart and won't trade, then it doesn't matter if we say we want Leinhart or not. What matters is that the Saints want him, not that we want him.

The Texans won't take Leinhart and then trade him. They may trade the pick, but they aren't going to do a draft-and-trade with him. They'd only do that with someone they are perfectly willing to keep.

Does anybody remember back when we drafted Carr that we said we were going to draft Carr. It was because we have the first pick and nobody is in front of us to divert our draft intentions. Smoke Screens are only good if say we have the #3 pick and want the same guy as the #4 pick.
