Default If the Texans win at SF it could devistate the future of this franchise

The Texans need to lose to SF. The Texans need the top spot.

Why?

For starters. The Texans are not as bad as their record shows. This means they are poised to make a quantum leap next season in the AFC South.

New Coaching, a New attitude and the infusion of a little bit of talent is all this team needs to jump to the #2 spot in the AFC South. I won't be as bold as to say we can take on the Colts. As long as Peyton Manning and the Colts stellar O-line is in our division, we will probably be looking at a wild card. But the other teams...the Titans who overacheived this year with 4 wins, and The Jaguars who might be the worst 12-4 team in NFL history (Anyone who has watched the Jags this season knows they have had a good year in the Win-Loss Column but that team has some problems and it should not shock anyone if they drop off BIG TIME next year.).

I have Hope for next year...because I watched the NFC this year.
- Chicago Bears: worst to first
- Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Bucs: worst two to first two
- Cowboys, Giants and Redskins: all with Losing records in 04', all with winning records in 05'

Look at the Draft History
http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/ones
You will notice something. That is not only a list of great players but a list of players are/were the cornerstone of their franchises. There are some amazing names in that list.

Trading Down would be a bad bad idea. It usually results in giving up a great player for several average players that are no long on the team in 3 years - it is the "I will trade you 10 pennies for your 1 quater" theory. But if there was ever a year when you had a player with a TON of hype(Reggie Bush) this is the year. BTW I think he is worth the hype. Of all the players going to the ProBowl this year half of them were picked in the first round. There are only 32 first round picks vs 200 plus guys in rounds 2-7 plus undrafted guys. First Rounds are your safe bet, trading down is a big time roll of the dice.

The #1 pick isn't just for the First Round. It is also the #1 pick in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th....rounds. It is huge. The #1 pick in the 2nd round is basically a first round pick and is a GREAT place to pick up that TE, LB or OT that we desperately need.

Another reason it would be great for the Texans to have the #1 pick is all the press coverage we would get. Lets face it if you live out of state you know what I am talking about. The Texans dont get talked about too much on the national radio or on the national TV. That would change if we have the top pick.

With that said.....

GO NINERS.

This is the last time you will see me root against the Texans. Actually I don't consider it rooting against the Texans. I consider it rooting for the Texans' future. This season is over for us. Let's start over next season with a bang.

Also,
I love David Carr but if we don't get the first pick and Matt Leinart is on the board.....you take him. He is going to be a superstar.

I live in SoCal but I am not a USC fan (you think Cowboy fans are annoying...LoL you should see USC fans). I am a UT guy...I got to witness the Horns last year in the RoseBowl, that was best game I have ever seen live. I hope USC gets crushed by the Horns next week.

I can't do this. Besides, if we really aren't as bad as our record indicates then that should mean we don't deserve the #1 pick and that our #5 or lower should be just what we need to get the job done next year with the right coaching and accountability for each player on this team.

Don't get me wrong. I want Bush but I will also be happy if we can get the guys that will allow Carr more possessions or time to throw the ball like we've been wanting for four years now.

This is the biggest game in the history of the Texan franchise and it's a must lose situation. Regardless if you want Reggie Bush or not the amount of draft picks you can get in return for him would be franchise altering.

Beating the 49ers would cost the Texans a 1st, 2nd, and possible 3rd round pick.

Would it hurt if we won this game. Sure.

Would it be the end of the world. No way.

Lets keep it in perspective.

That is just awful logic. If we aren't as bad as our record is then getting a playmaker like Reggie Bush is a huge bonus. It doesn't matter if we deserve the #1 pick or not.

What are you are a triator. You want us to lose. You should be shot for your treason. I serious hope great pain amongst your non Texan loving self. And you post makes completely no sense at all. First all Bush cant help Carr stay off his @ss. This post makes me think you have no clue about the Texans and you want them to draft Bush because of reasons that you are making up. First of all if we dont upgrade our O-line Carr will be on butt 60 times again next season. His confidence will be down and that will effect our WR and our RB's. I have heard before lets put Bush in the slot well that doesnt stop the rush. We also need a TE to force the denfense to take the 8th man out of the box. Do some reasearch before posting what you like. Reeves is known for picking later round studs as well as early round studs. So clearly you have no clue what you are talking about

Geezzzz Royce, chill. He's just a misguided fan. He thinks what he wants is best for the team and you (I & others) think otherwise. That's all it is.

There's that missing Perspective again. Man you need something to take the edge off. Enhance your calm dude. Nobody is shooting anybody over football here.

Oh and a good running game can do a lot to help a QB stay off his backside. That's very basic football 101 stuff man. You should know that if you're going to run around telling people they make no sense and have no clue.

You can upgrade the offense line without using the top pick on a LT or other offenslve lineman. It's called coaching. Our offensive line coach has spent two years making the Texans play worse than they did in 2003.

I am curious ... everyone is talking about Bush... but D'Aangelo Williams (is that who was playing two nights ago) was 3rd in the country with 170 yards a game average.. granted I didn't watch any games but that is impressive to me also

There's nothing wrong or traitorous in recognizing the positive aspects of a Texan's loss on Sunday. No more than of recognizing the benefits of a NO or NYJ win. All of the above would improve the Texan's draft position. That's a good thing. Who amongst you disagrees with this basic math?

Don't win the battle and forfeit the war. The battle is on Sunday, the war starts on Monday. Be far-sighted.

For starters I am not a "Short-Term" fan. I want to win championships. Not go 3-13.

A great running back does give you more time to throw the ball. The play action is more effective so you have more big plays. A good running back especially one who is really fast around the outside like Bush, keeps the Line Backers honest. Teams are more affraid to blitz or if they do they are more likely to get burned by a screen.

A great running back will also keep our offense on the field longer giving our defense more time to rest. There is a reason teams with great running games usually have good defenses. They are well rested.

Plus with the first pick in the Second round we can pick up a premier O-lineman. I agree protecting our QB should be a big focus of this offseason.

Let's face it one pick isn't going to make the whole difference. We will need to have a good draft and be a PLAYER IN FREE AGENCY!!

BOTTOMELINE, if I had to choose between 2-14 with the 1st overall pick and the first pick in every round. or 3-13 with the 4th or 5th overall pick. I will take the higher picks every time.

One game isn't that important, if you think it is you are thinking short sided.

Yes but you cant still say you want the Texans to lose. Thats rediculous. If we get the #5 pick we might just take Dbrick and all the conversations we have had are pointess.

What you said about the running back is not true. He wont rush for anymore than DD did. Shaun Alexander and Tiki Barber are the only to running backs IMO that can run with 8 men in the box and thats because both of those 2 teams have an O-line and a TE. Trust me they will rush us just as much as they did this year and Carr will be sacked 60 times again and we will have another 3-13 to a 6-10 schedule. Some of the teams we will play next year will rip us apart if we dont address our O-line in either FA or in the draft. Well a great running back doesnt do anything if our offense line cant keep people off him. Do some more reasearch man.

Well if we can trade down get a better quality player in the 1st round and get some extra picks. Dan Reeves has been known for making that big trade to get the players he wants. The players he wants 9 out of 10 times will be a star in the league. When he was with atlanta he had only 1 bad choice the CB. We havent selected good later round picks. Reeves always picks good later round talent. Broaden your horizions here man. You are so zeroed in on Bush you are not seeing how good DD is and the importance of upgrading our o-line and getting a TE. Plus we might even decide to go Defense in the 1st round. Take the picks we got from the deal and trade back up in the late round and get a OL there. You need to look at other scenarios and how it would benefit us.

FA would help. That is the only way we could afford to take Bush. If we bring in a TE, OL, LB, or DB first. I have said this many times before if we get 1 or 2 OL in FA then i agree lets take Bush but with what we have now it wouldnt work. With the teams we play next season we would be 3-13 again.

and no 1 game isnt important but wanted your team to lose is cowardess. That tells me you arent a real fan. The only thing that might happen by picking 1-5 is amount of players we would get in a deal or us taking Dbrick or J WIlliams if we pick 4 or 5.

maybe David Carr will be partying new years hard out in his Native Cali and will be too messed up to play well, throws a bunch of picks in the first qtr and gets replaced with Ragone when he pukes in the huddle.

How many of those guys made the Pro Bowl? How many are stars?

The Texans have picked up Domanick Davis and Jerome Mathis in the 4th round in the last few years. But that was lucky. It doesn't happen often. Plus DD is hardly worthy of "Star" status. He is very servicable but not Star worthy. Jerome Mathis....he is something special on Special teams, hopefully he can bring that to the WR position next year.

It is almost 1am here, my team is 2-13, and I am sitting on my computer in my Texans Pajamas typing a novel about this team, and their draft which will happen in 5 months. I don't think I need may FanHood questioned. I know where my loyalty lies and I want the see the Texans lose this next game, for the good of the franchise.

No a loss will not be better for the careers of the current players one third or more of them won't even be on the team next year. But a loss will be better for the Houston Texans.

If Reggie Bush is they say..."a once in a Generation" type player. He is worth it. I am not a pro scout. I don't know who to grade a RB. But the experts seem to think he is all that and a bag of chips. Like I said if he is that good, then he is worth it.

D'Brickshaw...........I am hearing he might not even be the top player at his position taken. So I don't know (heck I haven't seen D'brick play in a single game). I guess we will find out.

It is going to be an interesting offseason. I think we both want the same thing. A team with a chance at the playoffs in 2006.

How many of those guys made the Pro Bowl? How many are stars?

The Texans have picked up Domanick Davis and Jerome Mathis in the 4th round
thank you I'm so glad I didn't have to take the time to post this, but I was thinking the same thing. About the only time Charlie has been successful was deep in the draft. I'll like to throw on top of that Earl, cause I think he is going to be a player. and for the 100th time will people stop questioning if people are real fans are not. If you want to be realistic we have nothing to gain by winning next week.

Lets just think about it."Yeah we are 3-13 we beat the 49ers, man they are a great team yet we overcame them. What a great win". Instead of being 2-14 we can now carry great and much more momentum a 3-13 season brings us, that our players will remember 6 months later, although we'll be knocked down about 3 or 4 spots in the draft. Just think about it, when we're up against the wall next year we can look back and say, "Remember when we took out the mighty 05' 49ers" yeah!. There is absolutely nothing to gain about winning next week. Whether your in the bush camp or in the trade down camp, a loss next week is the best thing that can happen.

Quite the dilemma we have...to cheer our team to victory and end this horrible season on an upnote or hope they win so we can draft the next "Gale Sayers."

I to am torn and that is why I'm all for resting some of our stars and playing some of our back-ups so that Dan Reeves can evaluate them for Mr. McNair.

I mean if Dave Ragone, Vern Morency and Mathis could start and beat 49ers then so be it.

If we don't get Reggie, it won't be the end of the world. In reality we have a solid starter and two decent back-up HBs. Although Reggie would make us more dangerous and give us more options (RB, WR, KR & PR)...we do have greater areas of need (OL, TE & LB).

I've watched D'Brick play two games and he did OK, he was beaten by Tapp a couple of times. AJ Hawk is a stud and so is Bobby Carpenter...AJ in the 1st or perhaps Bobby in 2nd would be great.

Bottom line: Win or lose the off-season is gonna be interesting and fun...as a fan, I'll enjoy it either win or lose against SF.

LOL!!!! You want a good RB who will keep the offense on the field, yet the big argument for getting Bush is the long 70 yd TD run!!! Makes up your mind people, do you want a steady running game, with the occasional 40 yarder (DD), or a lottery with Bush, where you have no idea what he will do, good or bad?

Also, you may want to tell the Cheifs D over the last 5 years that they have a "great defense" because of the running game. Same with the Colts D of the last 5 years. And Atlanta, yet again leading the league in rushing...

And again its you are the one with no perspective. We should for people making comments like that. We are Texans... we are better than the rest of the country when it comes to football. I expect more from you than this.

Well we have a good running back its not working. We CANT RUN THE BALL WITH 8 MEN IN THE BOX with this O-LINE. Until we upgrade our pass blocking our running game will never prosper. We will have 8 or 9 coming at Carr every play. He doesnt have time to use his weapons in AJ. I agree this isnt simple football here this takes people with real football knowledge to understand you cant run the ball with 8 people in the box and that Bush can only block 1 person. If they rush 8 Bush picks 1 up 1 for each of our O-line wow 8 v 6. good odds there. Well if we sign TE one of those 8 has to watch him. then all of the sudden the best they can send is 7. Would a team knowing we have a TE how can catch the ball want to leave a SS on him. I think there is only 5 SS in the league who can take down a good TE. Now if we sign some O-lineman before the draft then all means go for Bush it would make an interesting split formation. But we need to protect what we have instead of getting someone new to get killed.

Well appearently you havent been watching any games in the past 2 years. Isnt that what the coaching staff said the past 2 years. We can coach what we have. Lets let these people gel together. Thats a load of Bull *******. See where that crap got us. Our running game talent is good but our pass blocking talent is worthless. Until we upgrade that our offense is just as good as our O-line worthless. So dude its you who needs to watch some games here because you are not seeing whats really going on.
