At the bottom of this story on Corey Bradford is a not very good blurb about Bennie hurting his groin again. Damn I'm sorry to see that.
Jorrpu information at the bottom under "Notes"

I have been waiting for this guy to make the team to show what he can do and this happens. Halloway is going to have to take advantage of this opportunity.

This chronicle story seems to imply that Bennie was not doing all that well during the off season unlike we were hearing.

not at all concerned. Billy Miller is still at TE and I think he will continue to improve on the good job he has done for us in the first 2 seasons. Joppru may be looking for a job shortly if he doesn't start doing something besides call out 'Medic'.

lets hope bruener gets/stays healthy. folks that have watched him over the years repeatedly say that his catching ability is just fine, but that the system in pittsburgh never game him a chance. plus we know how evil a blocker he is.
it's a shame if joppru's hurt, he's been getting some really good publicity about being our feature TE in years to come because he's more balanced than the "specialists" we're otherwise using.

Well its times like this that make you glad of our depth at TE. Think about that, the Texans have depth at a position, that sounds good. But seriously thats a bumer because I really wanted to see what Bennie could do and if we made the right decision choosing him over Jason Witten.

This is soo unfortuneate. Hopefully he can come of the PUP list and be ready to work his way back into the rotation. If he could be starting by week 14, and we could get 3 solid games with him, it would at least let us see what we have in him. I wouldn't want to waste another high draft pick on a tight end.

Waste? The Colts and Patriots have picked a TE in the first round three times in the last two years. The Titans first pick this year was a TE. They are three of the better offensive teams in the league. TE is a largely underappreciated position and a good one makes your offense click.

Have to agree with Vinny there.
I think the think the Texans management will soon soon decide that Joppru is permanently damaged, and will have to cut bait. I don't fault them for drafting him. He had no prior history of injury in college. But nontheless, consider him a bust and move on. And yes, from here on out, I'd say they're gonna take a TE high in the draft until one finally pans out. The position is that important. Last edited by Marcus; 08-01-2004 at 07:36 PM. |

I guess the only good thing is that this didnt happen during the season, but before training camp, so now they have time to make a game plan without him.
I just hope the injury bug doesnt start biting. |

Heath Miller is probably the best TE in College football not named Matt Herian (Nebraska).

Miller is a good receiver, but he can't be counted on to push the d-line around. Bennie has (had) that ability and can (could) catch. I was hoping to see what he could do this year, hopefully he recovers and puts this injury bug behind him.

So for now, this will have to be the year of Mark Bruener. He's going to assume the leadership role at the position. Glad we got him. He brings strength to the position. Billy Miller just doesn't have it IMO.
And like stated above, I do agree ... TE has to be a high priority come next year. |

I feel bad for the guy. A "bust" is a guy who can't play the position. Benny can play, he has just been injured. Even though I have my favorites I don't root for the guys behind them on the depth chart any injuries. He was just PUP'ed. It's not like he is done or on IR. Lot's of players around the league are on the pup list right now who will see the field this year. I hope he recovers and helps us win some games. I hope Miller does well also.

you'd have to consider him a bust right now. Kaz was out because of injuries and is considered a bust. Same with Boz. If a guy doesn't play for you at all then, yes that is a bust, as in a failure, a flop renderd inoperable or unusable. So far it can be considered a bust until proven otherwise.
I too am glad to see that we brought in Bruener to shore up this position. Its not too difficult to call this a great loss only that we are not seeing the benefits of a 2nd round selection. We've didn't have him last year so the addition of Bruener fills that void. If we need to shut Joppru down for this season then no big deal. Bruener is our Joppru for now. Let's just hope Jop can get better. |
