Shantee Orr Stepping Up - Houston Texans Message Board & Forum

This guy has been stepping up alot lately and is now the leader in Sacks with 7. He also has 4 forced fumbles, while Antwan Peek only has 5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. Anyway, just wanted to get y'alls take on Orr. He's definitely made the most of his limited time on defense.

I've been impressed with his play since the beginning of the season when they subbed him in. He's always aggressive, and plays with lot of passion. I'm hoping it's a sign of things to come and he's one of our starters next year. He might turn out to be one of our much needed defensive leaders, too.

I may be wrong, but he doesn't seem to commit stupid penalties like Peek does.

Whoa, he's up to 7 sacks ! That's great ! He's playing very well, with intensity and yet playing cool. I'm a big fan of his and was as far back as 2003 when he had that strong game against Atlanta.

Agreed. I feel that he will replace Peek next year. Peek has been quite a let-down this entire year. He is below average at run support also, which is needed from a LB in the 3-4. He also cannot control his emotions, and has yet to become the leader he was projected to become.

*I also feel he has had a negative influence on Daunta, causing him to act like that on the sidelines some also.*

I do have a question in regards to the prototype OLB and what would his size be? Peek is 6'3'' and Orr is 6'0''.

Size you actually tend to have ILB's at 6'2-6'5. OBL are the smaller, quicker guys who can get to the sweep and still rush the passer. They are usually DE/OLB tweeners. 6'0-6'3 is the ideal size I see for an OLB in the 3-4.

Most of deciding on which position a guy will play is based on his weight/speed ratio, and ability to run support (ILB)/get to the QB fast (OLB).

I wish there were a way to pull old posts (if there is, lemme know). I called out ORR last year on being a play maker. I think "Ball Hawk" were my actual words. And if I'm not mistaken, he was even on the practice squad for a while AFTER having some game experience in '04.

Either way...I'd be interested to know who is developing our LB's. We have several that have landed on our squad with NO fan-fare...developed their skills here, and then moved on (Posey, Foley). Let' shope we tie down Orr & Polk (and probably Anderson, too) before they get away.

Our LB's have been anything but a brightspot for us this year. We run a 3-4 where the Dline ties up blockers to the LB's can make plays and stop the run.

How is that working out again?

I would like for Orr to get 2 or 3 sacks next game. He deserves the team record. That would be one thing to smile about this season.

Orr has been a favorite of mine since the 2003 season - when all of the defensive injuries caused the Texans to dig deep on the depth chart. He was a standout amongst the scrubs - showing real fire and heart when given the chance.

I was thrilled when Babin was benched in favor of Shantee Orr, because I was sure that given his chance to show his stuff again in 2005 - he wouldn't disappoint. And it seems to have worked out well - Orr looks good AND Babin looks much better. A little competition never hurts.

I agree that both Babin and Orr look good, but Babins lack of production early on was due to a shoulder injury. Since that has healed somewhat, his play is MUCH better. I think they will be the OLBs as Peek makes to many errors and fouls.

I wouldn't be opposed to that. You bring Peek back in as a rush specialist and you got one mad dude hitting the QB.
