We had a roughing the quarterback penalty and you saw late in the game we hit the quarterback. The ball hung up there forever and we ended up having an illegal contact call on that. All those things add up when you are playing a good football team. You have to make those plays and that’s what most of these games come down to. I thought our guys fought hard. They got the best of us at the end of the game. We had our chances we didn’t make them, and they had their chances and made theirs.”

(On missed field goals changing momentum) “Well, we had field goal attempts and we missed two. I think that factors in with the things that I just discussed. To beat a good football team like Jacksonville, you’ve got to convert all of you opportunities. We had an interception right down on the goal line, it was in his hands and we dropped it and they ended up kicking a field goal. We probably had three or four interceptions that you have to make.”

(On Andre Johnson playing better with a healthy Jerome Mathis) “Well, I think that all of these guys can be a lot better. Especially on defense with the number of young players we play. We’ve got a number of young players on defense and they’ll continue to get better. I think you saw that with David (Carr), we had two receivers to get over 100 yards today and we were able to throw the ball up the field. It’s something we plan on doing more in the game.”

(On defensive breakdown) “We had some missed tackles and some penalties. They beat us in man coverage. There was a third and one play when we came with the blitz to keep them from making the first down and they ran a play action pass and threw it up and beat us in man coverage. At that point and time we were right there, it was a one score game and that made it a two score game.”

On the team’s awareness of the Reggie Bush talk in Houston) “How can you not know? You hear the fans chanting, and they’ve got Reggie Bush signs. But just because the fans want it doesn’t mean we’re going to draft him. That’s out of my control, so I really can’t comment on it.”

(On if he resents the Reggie Bush hype) “It would be the same anywhere. If another team was in the same situation we’re in, their fans would be doing the same thing. The fans come out and support us every week, but when you’re down you have to do something to cheer yourself up. I guess that’s what cheers them up.”

No, AJ, WINS are what cheer us up. For certain fans, the prospect of obtaining Reggie Bush gives them a little hope for the future.

Missed tackles and penalties - ALWAYS a sign that coaches failed to stress the fundamentals in pre-season (and during the regular season). A disciplined team, of which there are many examples, minimize missed tackles and penalties.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I'm not all that sure that Reggie Bush (as good as he seems to be) is the answer to all of our problems.

We've got so many gaps to fill that a wheelin' and dealin' GM could really make some noise with that no. 1 pick and Reggie in the draft.

The Jaguars scored 21 straight points in the final period to easily wipe away the Texans' lead.

It has become a common theme this season. The Texans have been tied or held a lead in the fourth quarter seven times; only twice have they gone on to win.

Opponents have outscored the Texans 146-45 in fourth quarters and overtimes. Of 16 fourth quarter/overtime opportunities, the Texans' offense has been shut out nine times.

That's not the case in every quarter for the Texans. In second quarters, they have actually outscored their opponents this season 111-108. They have failed to score in that quarter only twice....

"The more you lose, the less confidence you have at the end, and the more confidence the other team has. They watch a lot of film. They know what's happened to us in the fourth quarter.

"They're saying, 'All we've got to do is hang around and we'll get them at the end of the game.' We're thinking, 'Oh gosh, here we go again. We lost a game (St. Louis) when we were up by 17 and now we're only up by three?' "

The trend has worn on the Texans, especially the veterans who are shocked that the same outcome is repeated.

"We have to quit finding ways to lose," tight end Mark Bruener said. "I've never been part of a team that finds so many different ways to lose. It's like we get up on an opponent, and then the wheels come off."

Some players said the Texans seem to lose focus late in games. Others said they become more complacent than their opponents.

"It's frustrating to get a team down and let it get out of hand," cornerback Dunta Robinson said. "Starting next week and especially in the offseason, we've got to work on finishing games. Sometimes we get a three- or four-point lead and get a little too relaxed."

The Texans didn't just sit down in the fourth quarter. The offense tallied 145 yards — the same as the Jaguars. The Texans, however, threw the lone interception of the game with 2:11 to play, allowing the Jaguars to get their final touchdown.

"The other teams just seem to take advantage of their opportunities, and we don't," receiver Andre Johnson said. "Once we get up on a team, we all take turns breaking down."
